Dave found the Jeopardy! round Daily Double in “Sports Around the World” under the $2,000 clue on the 20th pick of the round. He was in second place with $4,000, $200 less than Kristin’s lead. Dave bet it all and he was RIGHT.

Dave finished in the lead with $11,200. Kristin was in second with $4,200 and William was last with $1,200. All clues were shown.

Dave found the first Daily Double in “Olde English” under the $2,000 clue on the 2nd pick of the round. He was in the lead with $12,400, $8,200 more than Kristin in second place. Dave bet $5,600 and came up with “the Confessor”. That was WRONG.
This title was re-created in 1301 when Edward I gave it to his son who was born in Caernarfon show
Kristin got the last Daily Double in “Family Drama” under the $1,600 clue on the 8th pick of the round. She was in the lead with $6,600, $1,000 more than Dave in second place. Kristin bet $3,000 and she was RIGHT.

Dave finished in the lead with $13,200. Kristin was second with $10,000 and William was last with $3,600. All clues were shown.

WHAT IS MAHAL?
Wikipedia has an article entitled “Mahal (palace)” which goes into other possible meanings, and includes a list of notable mahals built by Muslim and Hindu rulers of India. Taj Mahal (Crown of the Palace), the most famous is on the list, as well as Lal Mahal (Red Palace) and Jal Mahal (Water Palace). All the mahals have their own articles.
A YouTube video features the Top 10 Royal Palaces in India. Surprisingly (at least to me), some of them were built in the 20th century.
William got it right. He bet it all and doubled his score to $7,200.
Kristin thought it was Taj. That cost her $7,500 and left her with $2,500.
Dave also got it right. He bet $6,801 and won the game with $20,001. Dave Pai is the first semi-finalist.

Unusually, I got more than half of the TS. However, one miss was, I said “gumption”. Hey, it still fits!
I didn’t put much thought into FI, and said “Pathet”, like “Pathet Lao”. Ergo, of COURSE, I was wrong!
Decent group of ex-champs tonight. I really thought Dave would know the royal title (DD). I remember well now-King Charles’ investiture at Caernarvon (American spelling) when he received that title.
Felt even more ancient when no one knew the Tennessee Williams play with Big Daddy (Burl Ives in the movie, also Paul Newman, Liz Taylor). And again when no one knew the recording product from 1982, good grief. I saw that Dustin Hoffman movie around that same time. It was OK but maybe a little overrated, IMO. More old-school stuff I knew were the Hellman play and the author of “All My Sons.”
The Final left me confounded. In hindsight, not that impossible.
These contestants certainly didn’t have an affinity for houseplants.
I was a little bowled over that no one knew the play Big Daddy is in.
Oh well, I immediately think “Mendacity” when Big Daddy is mentioned, kind of like “Redrum” and “The Shining” 🤣
