WHO IS DOCTOR FAUSTUS?

Doctor Faustus is a German scholar who makes a deal with the devil in “The Tragical History of the Life and Death of Doctor Faustus” by 16th c. playwright Christopher Marlowe. Faustus wants 24 years of magical powers in exchange for his soul but, when the time to pay up nears, he tries to figure a way out. That’s where Helen of Troy comes in.

An old clue: WORLD THEATER ($1600) About 220 years before Goethe’s came this English playwright’s version of the Faust legend

Dave went with “Titus Andronicus”. He lost $12,000 and finished with $3,000.

Aimée wrote down “Nope”. Ken said “That’s not correct”. Duh! 🤣 She lost $12,001 and finished with $4,599.

Spencer thought it was Troilus. He lost $16,000 and finished with $1,600. That made Aimée Fluitt the new Jeopardy! champion.

Final Jeopardy (10/10/2025) Spencer Janes, Dave Francois, Aimée Fluitt

*Reversal: COOKING TERMS ($2000) Parchment paper is often used to delicately cook fish in the French style known as en this – Dave’s response of ‘en papier’ was rejected. They wanted the ‘en papillote’ Spencer supplied. The judges found out that ‘papillote’ is basically ‘papier’, so Dave’s got his $2,000 back, plus another $2,000 for being right.

A triple stumper from each round:

Oh my, I sure did miss quite a battle tonight. Final stumped me too, the reference to Helen of Troy not helping at all. The last word of the Moussorgsky opera clue gave it to me. Only listed stumper I got. 🙁
Did get the last 2 DDs. And now I know that the Catholic school 3 miles from my home is named after the friend of St. Francis.

It was another splendid game, and Aimee emerged as the new Jeopardy champion. Congratulations! Regarding the FJ, the clues were obviously alluding to Helen of Troy. For lack of a better choice, I went with Ulysses.

This is the third triple stumper this week. All three players had high scores but a triple stumper prevented them from having a big payday. 4,599 is the lowest payday of Season 42.
