Final Jeopardy: Milestones in U.S. History (1-4-16)
The Final Jeopardy question (1/4/2016) in the category “Milestones in U.S. History” was:
This President began a State of the Union address by congratulating the historic 100th Congress.
2x champ Ashley Wilson won $52,402 last week. We don’t know if she got to keep that $1,000 from the Tuesday game where she was disadvantaged by the wording of the clue. Today she is up against these two players: Charlene Lee, from Jersey City, NJ; and Terry McElhennon, from New Bern, NC.
Alex Trebek ditched his cane. “It’s good to be back on my own two feet,” he said at the beginning of the show.
Round 1: Ashley found the Jeopardy! round Daily Double in “State Capitals” under the $1,000 clue on the 5th pick of the round. With $1,400, she was the only one on the plus side. Terry was minus $200 and Charlene was minus $800. She made it a true Daily Double and thought it was Pierre. That was WRONG.
It was selected as a compromise between North Platters & South Platters, who each favored a different locale. show
Terry finished in the lead with $3,800. Ashley was second with $3,400 and Charlene was last with zero.
Round 2: Charlene found the first Daily Double in “Classical Music Venues” under the $1,600 clue on the 4th pick of this round. She now had $1,600, $2,600 less than Ashley’s lead. She made it a true Daily Double and didn’t seem too sure but she got it RIGHT.
One of the most photographed buildings in the world, it sits on Port Jackson’s Bennelong Point. show
Terry found the last Daily Double in “What a Character” under the $1,600 clue. In second place with $6,600, he had $800 less than Ashley’s lead. He bet $1,000 and guessed “Much Ado About Nothing.” That was WRONG.
Make no mistake, a character named Dr. Pinch is a quack physician & teacher in this Shakespeare play. show
Terry finished in the lead with $8,400. Ashley was next with $7,400 and Charlene was in third place with $4,400.
TWO of the contestants got Final Jeopardy! right.
WHO IS RONALD REAGAN?
Then President Ronald Reagan made this State of the Union address on January 27, 1987.
Charlene got it right. She bet $4,300 and finished with $8,700.
Ashley thought it was Jimmy Carter. She bet and lost it all.
Terry also got it right. He bet $6,401 so he became the new Jeopardy! champ with $14,801.
This $800 triple stumper in “What a Character” included 2 wrong guesses (“Great Expectations” and “Oliver Twist”): “Charles Dickens’ own father was the inspiration for the eternally optimistic Wilkins Micawber in this novel.” Deduction: You guys have never experienced the pleasure of seeing W.C. Fields play Micawber.
2 years ago: Only ONE of the players got this FJ in “Broadway Actresses”
She originated 2 famous Broadway roles: one later played on film by Marilyn Monroe, another by Barbra Streisand. show

41/56 here. The State Capitals DD was essentially the same clue as the FJ! in the 11/16/95 TofC quarter final game, where two players got it.
Wow, we have yet to have a 5-time champion to join Matt Jackson this season. I hope someone wins 5 games by the end of this month.
I have the exact same hope as you do, Dalton!
Yep. The 100th Congress convened January 6, 1987. Never will forget that date! Great day in U. S. history. Fantastic fj clue imo.
Btw, vj, thanks for the vdeo of the State of the Union address.
Your welcome. 🙂 After posting that, there wasn’t much else to say about it. He says it right at the beginning and I agree, it was a good clue
And that means that unfortunately, Ashley Wilson is disqualified from my 6th version of Tournament Of Champions. Man, I just can’t catch a break!
She threw her lead away with a guess on that $2K clue in Emmy: The Women but it didn’t much matter since she didn’t get FJ.
