TWO of the contestants got Final Jeopardy! right.

WHO IS MARIAH CAREY?

According to Billboard: “With 18 No. 1s on the Billboard Hot 100, Mariah Carey holds the record for the most leaders on the list of any solo artist, second overall only to The Beatles…. Notably, she landed a No. 1 every year from 1990 through 2000, while her duet with Boyz II Men, “One Sweet Day,” is tied with Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee’s “Despacito,” featuring Justin Bieber, for the most weeks at No. 1: 16 (starting Dec. 2, 1995).”

From an Ultimate Tournament of Champions game: WHO’S HAD MORE NO. 1 HITS? $800: Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey, Barbra Streisand

Joan got it right. She bet $1,500 and finished with $7,500.

Meghan got it, too. She bet $13,190, bringing her up to $27,190.

J.B. went for New Jersey native Whitney Houston. He lost $13,601 and landed in third place with $799. That made Meghan Schulz the new Jeopardy! champ.

Final Jeopardy (1/31/2019) Joan Dietrich, Meghan Schulz, J.B. Evans

What the heck?? I BEFORE E, AFTER C ($800) It’s an Italian lawn bowling game.
Alex spelled it B-O-C-C-I-E. Joan rang in but didn’t respond. She was probably spelling the more widely used B-O-C-C-E to herself and thinking “no I”)

Two triple stumpers from the last round:

1960S AMERICA ($400) Thanks to a gift from Nikita Khrushchev, this president enjoyed a litter of dogs nicknamed “pupniks”

I GOT THE WORLD ON A STRING ($1600) This instrument is a long-necked Greek lute; a bazooka makes a much different sound

J.B. tried to win the game, but missed because he picked the wrong female singer in the wrong state. Meghan, the new J! champion, could be the first 5-time champion we desperately need.

  2. John B./I. says:

Although her wager was a little strange (had she been wrong she would have been left with 810 bucks, might as well have won another 810…), CONGRATULATIONS to Meghan!

Funny they had an “M.C.” category when Mariah Carey was the FJ solution !!! Did J! try to give a hint there? I also found the “bazooka” clue funny, did they mean the sound of the weapon or the chewing gum popping?

  3. Lou says:

Well, it’s great that the ladies knew Mariah Carey since her music has given us happiness. Let’s hope meghan can build up her win because we need her to get a streak going to start the month of February before the all star games begins. Whitney Houston wasn’t that bad but her songs I have nothing, I will always love you and so forth Will always be my favorite. VJ and John you guys know I don’t want to cry, my all, and hero right?

    • John B./I. says:

      @Lou
I like Parton’s version of IWALY” better, but then I am a big fan of Dolly Parton…..
Houston was great, what a pity that her life went into a downward spiral, really sad.

    • VJ says:

@Lou, there’s no denying that Whitney and Mariah have fabulous voices, but personally, I like songs that you can sing along to so that kind leaves them out of my repertoire.
