WHAT IS “SWEET HOME ALABAMA”?

In 2007, then Alabama Governor Bob Reilly announced that the state was adopting the motto “Sweet Home Alabama” for a multi-million marketing program to be implemented in 2008. That was decided after research showed both Alabamians and out-of-state residents overwhelmingly preferred “Sweet Home Alabama” over other choices. The tourism agency planned to sell T-shirts and caps with a red, blue, yellow and white logo with the words “sweet” and “home” flanking the stylized word “Alabama.” In addition to paying Universal Music a 6% royal, they shelled out a $25,000 licensing fee. They also came up with a new license plate design.

State Tourism Director Lee Sentell said: “‘Sweet Home Alabama’ is the third most-played song identifying a destination, behind ‘New York, New York’ and ‘I Left My Heart in San Francisco.'”

David got it right. He bet $3,577, bringing him up to $7,777.

Michelle got it, too. She bet $4,500 for a $17,900 finish.

Joshua started out with “Georgia On My Mind”, then crossed out Georgia for Carolina. Either way, that cost him $7,500 and left him with $13,500. That made Michelle Paul the new Jeopardy! champ.

Too bad Josh couldn’t get another win but we shall see what Michelle can do to close out the month of January. Sweet Home Alabama all summer long is one of my favorite songs that I listen to on the radio many times.
