TWO of the contestants got Final Jeopardy! right.
WHAT IS “1999”?
“1999” is not only the title of Prince’s “tonight I’m gonna party like it’s 1999” song, but also the title of his 5th studio album. They have been re-released more times than indicated in the clue, most recently in 2019.
In this December 1999 video, Prince and Larry King talk about “1999” (starting around the 17:49 mark). Prince explained that while watching a special about 1999, he realized that, unlike himself, many people found the future frightening, “So I just wanted to write something that gave hope.” At the time of the interview, Prince was scheduled to perform “1999” in a pay-per-view show. In the interview, he says it will be the last time he will perform the song live. That and the Y2 Bug undoubtedly added to the song’s mystique. 17 years later, on 4/21/2016, Prince passed away at the age of 57.
Gabriela thought it was “Like a Virgin”, a 1984 hit for Madonna. She lost her $3,700 bet and finished with $5,100.
Stephen got it right. He bet $2,500 and finished with $17,900.
Brian got it right, too. He bet $9,201 and won the game with $30,801. His 6-day total is $147,304.
2 triple stumpers from TV-POURRI:

I’m so excited for Zach Newkirk to come back on Thursday!!! I hope Brian wins tomorrow and if he does it will be a 7 day champ against a 4 day champ so that will be EPIC competition! At 7:55 pm when Final Jeopardy! comes on, I will find out what Brian’s 6 day total is. Please do not tell me how much he wins today because I want to find out at the end of the show. As of now:
Brian Chang: 5 Games (since I haven’t seen his 6th game yet) $116,503
Zach Newkirk: 4 Games $85,669
I got to “Iron Horse” for the first DD, but couldn’t make the connection. I’ve heard of it, but I’ve never seen it.
VJ Thanks for the fantastic video interview.
At last we have our six time winner for 2021 in Brian Chang. The last time was Andrew Pau and then pranjal and Hunter plus Lisa Schlitt. Congrats to Brian on his win today and to Stephen on getting final.
That Daily Double cost Gabriela the game.
Too bad, because with “alpha” and “pack” in the clue, it was definitely solvable.
Actually, what would have happened is that even Gabriela gets the DD right she will be in the lead, but she would have lost anyway because she missed FJ!
No, it cost her the lead, but certainly not the game.
Congrats to Brian who won his 6th game. We finally have a 6 day champion since Mackenzie who won her 6th game back in February. Tomorrow is going to be exciting because whoever wins will join Zach to play as co-champ on Thursday.
