Only ONE of the contestants got Final Jeopardy! right.

WHO IS PIPPI LONGSTOCKING?

Pippi Longstocking is the freckled-faced, pig-tailed heroine of the children’s books created by Astrid Lindgren. When Pippi goes to school, she tells the teacher that Pippi is only a nickname. Her real name is “Pippilotta Delicatessa Windowshade Mackrelmint Efraim’s Daughter Longstocking, daughter of Captain Efraim Longstocking, formerly the Terror of the Sea, now a cannibal king.” That is, of course, a loose translation from the Swedish “Pippilotta Viktualia Rullgardina Krusmynta Efraimsdotter Långstrump.” Someone actually entered those first 4 names on Behind the Name.

Rhonda’s Amazing Catch: Pippi Longstocking author, Astrid Lindgren, and today’s returning champ, Rachel, have the same last name.

Rachel thought it was Amelia Bedelia. She lost her $9,500 bet, leaving her with $100.

Melissa didn’t have a response. She lost $10,000 and finished with $200.

Jennifer got it right. She bet $8,801 and we finish this week with a new champ: Jennifer Tomassi with $20,401.

@Rhonda, I forgot to mention yesterday that French is the only language I saw where they change Pippi’s name. It’s Fifi Brindacier.

Here’s a little bit of trivia about Gilbert Collins & Rachel Lindgren that I’d like to point out. Let’s start with Gilbert. Gilbert got his 1st 2 Final Jeopardy!’s wrong, but after those 2, he’s gotten Final Jeopardy! right ever since. Rachel got her 1st 2 Final Jeopardy!’s right, but after those 2, she’s gotten Final Jeopardy! wrong ever since.

I’m still amazed at some of the misses. Not just this week. I know it must be hard to think when you are in front on an audience but don’t they have practice sessions? Either before they are chosen or after at the studio?

Loved the Pippi clue. When my daughter was in the 7th grade we dressed her up like Pippi. She had long hair so I used a wire coat hanger to make her braids go at different angles and bought some oddball clothes at the thrift store. Everybody loved it but she felt a little self-conscious on the bus on the way to school.

What a brilliant idea with the wire coat hanger, Becci! I bet your daughter looked great. I used to hit the thrift store, too, to get some effects together with Halloween costumes. On one, my daughter needed fur cuffs around her wrists and ankles, and I found a furry stuffed monkey that did the trick.

Well, Rachel did well in her five game run but pippi longstocking is also based on.the cartoon series. Are your kids fans of pippi long stocking cartoon when they were little, VJ? I have to give props to Rachel for trying but she should have bet less than 9000 dollars.

    • VJ says:

@Lou, I think they were all betting big based on the category. My youngest watched that cartoon now and then but I wouldn’t say she was a big fan of it.
