Alex found the Jeopardy! round Daily Double in “Around the Americas” under the $1,000 clue just before the break. He was in the lead with $4,600, $3,400 more than Ashley in second place. Alex made it a true Daily Double and guessed Toronto. That was WRONG.

NONE of the contestants got Final Jeopardy! right.

WHAT IS “MESSIAH”?

According to Esther Crookshank in her essay “The Scriptures in Handel’s Messiah: An Overview”, Handel’s librettist, Charles Jennens, chose the quotations that appeared on the Messiah word book.

The first one is the quote in today’s clue, which comes from Virgil (Eclogues IV, 1). “By quoting Virgil on his title page Jennens was stating emphatically: ‘We are about to sing of something infinitely higher and greater than all this world’s wisdom and enlightened human reason can offer.'”

Kamau was going for the Cliff Clavin ‘kitchen’ joke. He stood pat on his $2,000.

Ashley’s reply was “I was glad.” She lost $1,002 and finished with $4,398.

Alex had “Water Music”. He lost $4,401 and finished with $1,999. So, with a higher total than Alex, Ashley won the game and advanced to the semifinals, and she really had something to be glad about! (It’s an extra 5 grand even if you don’t make the finals.)

Well, my hopes for a better game were dashed. Even though the big lead Alex had went south in a hurry, he still was in the lead at the end of the last round. Crazy!

They’re really putting the whammy on these guys with some of this stuff.

  6. Kevin Cheng says:

For the second day in a row, we have a low scoring game and all three daily doubles were missed again. Darn those daily doubles to Alex. Congrats to Ashley for winning despite having only 8 correct to 29 correct for Alex. We’ll see her in the semifinals next week and we’ll see Kamau next month in the Celebrity Jeopardy All Stars. They mentioned that during the interviews that Kamau will take part in that event next month.
