New champ Neil Uspal won $19,400 yesterday. Today he takes on these two players: Hardy Clervil, from Brooklyn, NY; and Cathy Harding, from Deer Lodge, MT.

Only ONE of the contestants got Final Jeopardy! right.

WHO IS DOLLY PARTON?

From Unite Nashville Magazine: “If you ask Dolly what her new album, Pure and Simple, is about, her answer is just as ‘pure and simple’. It’s about love. ‘It’s like a love of many colors. True love, lasting love, all-time love, cheating love, sexy love, romantic love….I just had to cover it all.'” This was Dolly’s first No. 1 album since 1991’s “Eagle When She Flies.”

The description is a play on Dolly’s 1971 “Coat of Many Colors” hit song from her album of the same name. “Coat of Many Colors” was made into a children’s book and a 2015 TV movie. There was also a TV special in 2016 called “Christmas of Many Colors.”

Cathy got it right. She bet it all and finished with $2,400.

Neil thought it was Shania Twain. He lost his $3,200 bet and had $6,000 left.

Hardy came up with Loretta Lynn. His $6,201 bet was two bucks short of a win and one short of a tie. He finished with $5,999 and Neil won his second match, giving him a 2-day total of $25,400.

@Rhonda, I’m glad everyone was not preempted. I knew the Coat of Many Colors song first. I’ve been a fan of Dolly’s since she had her first TV show in 1976, even before she crossed over to mainstream fame.

I’m pretty sure that you, me and Marilyn all knew Betty Ann Perske. I couldn’t help wondering who would have buzzed in first in our imaginary game.

I like that we have an imaginary game going, VJ. I’m sure that I’d be the one having the hardest time ringing in lol. How many people these days have even heard of Lauren Bacall? I do think that they should have worded the league question about Sandra Day O’Connor “former justice”. They implied that she is still on the Court.

    • Marilyn Ahrenhoerster says:

I am ashamed to say I did not remember this.

$1000 bucks for me!! True, Rhonda, though I believe many members of the younger set enjoy classic movies They might know who she is but not her real name. We’re still behind Marilyn because she got that Daily Double. LOL!

In 2006, Bacall was in an episode of The Sopranos where Christopher and Carmine were trying to get Ben Kingsley to star in their mafia movie “Cleaver.” She came by and Kingsley called her “Betty.” Later, Christopher robbed her of all the free stuff she got after an awards show .

WOW! I was very surprised that Hardy lost by $1. Congratulations, Neil on your 2nd win, good wager again, and this reminds me of Andrew Haringer’s 3rd game on 5/18/15, the day that I met Jeopardy champion Terry Linwood at a Half Price Books store. On that day, Andrew, and 1 of his opponents were just back and forth throughout the game, especially in the Double Jeopardy! round, and the 3rd place player, who was around for Final Jeopardy!, just couldn’t handle the ”Buzzer Demon” thing, and can’t win. The 3rd place player, who had just $800 going into Final Jeopardy, was the solo get, and wagered $799. Andrew Haringer, who had $13,400, missed, and wagered $7,000, and wound up with $6,400, and the other guy, Fritz Brantley, who had $16,600, also missed, wagered $10,201, dropped down to $6,399, and loses to Andrew by 1 lousy buck. Just WOW!

    • Richard Corliss says:

It was twice as painful as when Sharath wagered $901 to his score and had $39,701 and Alec’s breakdown as he wagered everything and it wasn’t enough.

I don’t know how you do it, VJ! Thanks, as always, for all of your hard work.

    • VJ says:

Thanks, Rhonda. My TV schedule said they were covering the inauguration till 3 pm, then Jeopardy! would come on, but they just kept going and going, even preempting the 4 pm news. Big thanks to my grandson today. He called me up when it came on ABC7. He thought it was Loretta Lynn, too, if Hardy happens to stop by.

    • rhonda says:

Our listing said it would be on here, too, but I figured it was wrong. I was delighted to see that they did air it as scheduled.
I was hoping that Hardy would win. The only way I knew the answer was because of the tv movie that aired not too long ago.
A big thanks to your grandson, VJ!

Here’s what I’ve got at this point. I’ll be thankful for any corrections!
