Final Jeopardy: Government Sites (1-20-14)

The Final Jeopardy question (1/20/2014), in the category “Government Sites” was:

Begun as part of a 1930s project to reclaim Maryland mountain land, it’s officially “Naval Support Facility Thurmont.”

Current champ Sarah McNitt is back today to try to add to her 4-day total of $69,199. These two players will try to prevent that: Jon McGuire, from Matthews, NC; and Blake Perkins, from Baton Rouge, LA.

Sarah found the Jeopardy! round Daily Double in “Chipping In” under the $800 clue. She was in the lead with $4,400, $2,200 ahead of Blake in second place. She bet $2,000 and she was RIGHT.

Jon found the last Daily Double in “During Lou Gehrig’s Consecutive Game Streak” under the $1,200 clue. In second place with $5,600, he was $12,600 behind Sarah’s lead. He bet $4,000 and he was RIGHT.

Sarah finished in the lead with a runaway $22,200. Jon was next with $10,000 and Blake was in third place with $5,000.

NONE of the contestants got Final Jeopardy! right.

WHAT IS CAMP DAVID?

“Adapted from the federal employee retreat Hi-Catoctin, President Franklin Roosevelt established the residence as USS Shangri La, modeling the new main lodge after the Roosevelt winter vacation home in Warm Springs, Georgia. President Eisenhower subsequently renamed the institution in honor of his grandson David.” (White House: About Camp David)

Blake thought it was the U.S. Naval Academy. That cost him his whole $5,000 and he was wiped out.

Jon thought it was the Naval Observatory. He lost his $1,620 bet and finished with $7,999.

Sarah had the same reply as Blake. She lost $2,001 but still won the game with $20,199. Her 5-day total is $89,398.

Golly! That was quite the massacre, wasn’t it? Sarah was pretty lucky getting the easiest movie quote for that Daily Double, but it really wouldn’t have made that much difference. She totally dominated this match!
