Only ONE of the contestants got Final Jeopardy! right.
WHAT IS THE DUTCH EAST INDIA COMPANY?
“The Dutch East India Company was founded in 1602 and remained active until 1799. The Dutch name was Vereenigde Oost-Indische Compagnie, what literally means the United East Indian Company. Formed as a combination of mercantile organizations from various cities in Holland and Zeeland, the Company was involved in commerce in Asia itself, as well as between Europe and Asia.1 The VOC is generally considered to be the first multinational and the company to issue stocks.” (European Heritage.org)
Also see, the VOC page on Westfries Museum’s website.
John wrote down “The British East India T.C.” (T.C. = Tea Company, he said). He lost his $399 bet and finished with $5,201.
Patricia thought it was the Mayflower Compact. That cost her $4,000 and she wound up with $11,200.
Amanda got it right. Her $12,601 bet brought her up to $30,401 and we have a new champion. Congrats on both winning and the nice BIG payday!
Great game for the ladies who certainly dominated both rounds! John was barely able to get a buzz in edgewise. In the second round, when he finally had the chance in the “Aladdin” category, he would have been the one to get that second DD if he had zagged but he zigged and stayed in “Aladdin”! Of course, we don’t know if he knew the DD answer, but getting the last DD really was his only shot at that point. So it’s so long till the TOC. Alex did ask John what he was going to do with his winnings and he talked about starting up a bakery business for his wife.
Amanda Boitano is a 10th grade English teacher. During the chat, she talked about her involvement with Teach for America, a non-profit that provides services to under-resourced rural and urban public schools.
2 years ago:: NONE of the players got this FJ in “RECENT OSCAR WINNERS”
From 2008, it’s the most recent film to win Best Picture & Best Song; the lyrics are in a foreign language. show

VJ, I was reading Patricia’s Linkedin profile and she has a PhD in Rhetoric. That did not come up in the chat session on J. Didn’t Verna also?
Verna’s page on Hampden-Sydney College says she’s a visiting Asst. Professor of Rhetoric. Her Linkedin profile says she has a PhD in English from Penn State.
Thanks.
At $30,401 Amanda is the highest money winner so far in a single game in 2015. Great job young lady.
She is also fast on the buzzer and really knows her facts. A well-deserved win.
amen to that.
John “Neville Chamberlain died in a motorcycle accident in 1935”, lost, about time sooner or later
he’ll still be in the ToC. if you can win with “chamberlain died in a motorcycle accident in 1935” what does that say about the other contestants? never mind that hitler pulled chamberlain’s leg again and again when he was supposed to be dead already….:):)
agreed, other than one game the rest of the contestant pool was not that deep in the past several episodes
Saw an article on a guy who’s competing tomorrow. He seems to be implying that he did very well.
where in the article did he imply he did very well?
Maybe he didn’t. That was my impression and why I said “seems” because he said he was nervous till he got on stage, then just zeroed in on the board and Trebek’s voice.
It’s also the first time I ever saw an article where a player who already knows whether he won or lost talks about what he would do with the $$ if he won. (I’ve seen at least one where the contestant admitted to not doing too hot).
VJ, I don’t remember the last time we had a female winner. Has it been over a month?
Almost, Cece.
Check out J-ARCHIVE — the last 3 ladies were Allison Fraser, Alysha Rooks and Ann Conger, all in December
Thanks, VJ – funny, all 3 names begin with A. Just a silly observation.
I noticed that too, but Rooks went by her last name. We can still say they all brought their A game. Heh heh heh 🙂
way to go, Amanda!
Okay John B. I give up. You are correct about the geography problem. With Amsterdam in the fj clue where did John S get the British East India Tea Company from?
He had a good run though. He will be in the TOC for sure. Amanda played a smart game. Congrats Amanda!
Probably the same place Patricia got the Mayflower Compact. They were thinking colonial America, not Tulipmania.
VJ, you’re funny. Good sense of humor. The Mayflower Compact really had me baffled. LOL
Btw, the British East India Company (correct name) was created in 1600 two years before the DEIC.
yup, we pointed that out in the CotD talk.
well, there we go.so ONE it is, but one is better than zero. at least all 3 dd clues solved.again john did not get a single dd. nice haul, congratulations!
