Farewell Daddy Blues Supporting Cast: Boardwalk Empire

Here are some of the actors who appeared in Episode 12, Farewell Daddy Blues, Season 4 of Boardwalk Empire.

This episode was the season finale and there weren’t any new faces on board. But, as in other season wrap-ups, we did have to say goodbye to a couple of characters that have been with us throughout the show, and we don’t know for sure what impact that will have on some of  the other Boardwalk Empire actors.

Richard HarrowRichard Harrow (Jack Huston) was fatally wounded in the fallout from his attempt to murder Dr. Valentin Narcisse (Jeffrey Wright). Other characters that this affects are Julia Sagorsky Harrow (Wrenn Schmidt), Richard’s wife, Paul Sagorsky (Mark Borkowski), his father-in-law who is dying of cirhossis, and Tommy Darmody (Brady & Conor Noon). Before embarking on his mission to take Narcisse out, Richard sent Julia, Paul and Tommy out to stay with his sister Emma Harrow McCready (Katherine Waterson),  and (we assume) her husband Hugh (Sebastian Tillman). Little Tommy was at the center of a custody battle with Gillian Darmody (Gretchen Mol), his natural grandmother, who is currently in jail on murder charges in the death of Roger McAllister.

BE4-12-MaybelleMaybelle White (Christina Jackson) was killed by accident by Richard Harrow, when she stepped into the path of the bullet meant for Narcisse. Maybelle was the oldest daughter of Chalky White (Michael Kenneth Williams), who was right there when this horror occurred. Chalky was dragged back to Havre de Grace by the men who had accompanied him to Atlantic City (Levi and Winston would have been two of them). When the show returns for Season 5, since they usually skip a year, Maybelle’s funeral will be over with and his wife, Lenore (Natalie Wachen), may have left Atlantic City by then with the two other White children, Lester (Justiin A. Davis) and Addie (Dominique Swift).

Johnny Torrio (Greg Antonacci) handed over the reins of his Chicago operation to Al Capone (Stephen Graham), so we probably won’t be seeing much of him in Season 5.

After Eli Thompson (Shea Whigham) killed Agent Tolliver /Knox (Brian Geraghty), he had to go on the lam and was sent to the Capones’ territory. He was met on arrival by Nelson Van Alden (Michael Shannon). This was undoubtedly done to keep the Chicago story in the loop since Van Alden being in Chicago just isn’t enough to connect it back to Nucky Thompson (Steve Buscemi) in Atlantic City for another season.

Likewise a last-minute glimpse of Margaret Rohan Thompson cementing her deal with Arnold Rothstein for a fancy apartment indicates that there will be more goings on in New York in Season 5.

In the finale, Nucky was planning to retire and run off to Cuba with Sally Wheet (Patricia Arquette), but that didn’t pan out and Sally is still in Tampa, presumably still looking over Nucky’s business interests there as long as he continues to have any. We don’t think that there will be any pretense on Nucky’s part of a partnership with Dr. Valentin Narcisse (Jeffrey Wright) in Season 5, since Narcisse has been tasked with helping J. Edgar Hoover (Eric Ladin) defeat Marcus Garvey’s appeal in exchange for freedom.
