Ex Middleweight Champion Marvelous Marvin Hagler Dies at Age 66

Former middleweight champion and boxing Hall of Famer Marvelous Marvin Hagler passed away at his home in New Hampshire on March 13, 2021. Hagler, who legally changed his name to Marvelous, was 66. No cause of death was immediately released.

Hagler’s first professional fight was in 1973, and he won the undisputed middleweight title on September 27, 1980 when he beat Alan Minter in London. He held the title for six and a half years until he lost a split decision to Sugar Ray Leonard on April 6, 1987 in Las Vegas. Hagler retired after that, and stayed retired even though vast sums of money were offered for additional fights. He ended with a career record of 62-3-2. He spent much of his time after that acting in movies in Italy.
