Edmonton Oilers Win Fifth Straight Come From Victory
If your favorite NHL team takes the lead when playing the Edmonton Oilers, don’t think the game is in the bag. In Edmonton’s October 12th game vs. the Rangers in New York, the Oilers fell behind 1-0 in the first period. That wasn’t anything new in this young season; at some point in all five Oilers’ games, they trailed their opponents. And just like every other game, Edmonton came back to win.
After tying the score 1-1 in the 2nd, Edmonton broke it open in the third period with three goals, one by Connor McDavid and two by Leon Draisaitl to win 4-1. The victory set an NHL record for most games won after trailing to open a season; it’s also the first time that Edmonton was 5-0 since the 1985-86 season.
Through games of October 12th, McDavid led the NHL with 12 points while Draisaitl was right behind with 11. And speaking of right behind, while Edmonton led the Pacific Division with 10 points (5-0-0), the Anaheim Ducks, off to their own fast start, were in second with eight points (4-1-0).
