Duets Premiere: Hot New Music Competition

Why isn’t John Glosson Number 1? That’s the question on the lips of many after the May 24th premiere of “Duets” on ABC. Because J. Rome is Number 1. Why, we don’t know. Ironically, Rome and Glosson both performed their duets with Jennifer Nettles.

Nettles and J Rome gave the first performance with “Tonight,” so of course his name was No. 1 on the leaderboard starting out. J Rome’s voice is silky smooth R&B and it was a very good duet, but we really thought that “Stay,” Nettles’ duet with John Glosson, blew EVERONE ELSE out of the water. It was all that!

Host Quddus told Wet Paint that he believes “Duets” is head and shoulders above the other singing competitions.

Well, for one thing, the contestants are personally chosen by the actual celebrity they will sing with: Robin Thicke, John Legend, Kelly Clarkson and Jennifer Nettles. How cool is that? For the contestant, we mean. But you know that there’s not going to be much really tough criticism because these star are not going to pick anyone who is going to make them look bad. So for those who love the ridicule factor, it probably won’t be their cup of tea. But for those who watch for the music, you will get to see some awesome duets and you’ll love it.

Here is the what the leader board looked like at the end of the show:

1. J Rome – “Tonight” with Jennifer Nettles
2. Johnny Gray – “Ordinary People” with John Legend
3. Alexis Foster – “Magic” with Robin Thicke
4. John Glosson – “Stay” with Jennifer Nettles
5. Olivia Chisholm – “Lost Without You” with Robin Thicke
6. Bridget Carrington – “Tonight (Best You Ever Had)” with John Legend
7. Jordan Meredith – “Stronger (What Doesn’t Kill You)” with Kelly Clarkson
8. Jason Farol – “Breaking Your Own Heart” with Kelly Clarkson

One thing viewers would like to know is how the duets are judged. The judges are the celebrities and they are over there putting in their scores on a device in front of them, but we didn’t see any individual scores from anybody. We tried to find out something more about the judging process, but we don’t know diddly at this point. Fill us in, if you know.
