Death by Misadventure Tweets
We agree with Kimberly T. Palmer‘s twitter question: “why isn’t #deathbymisadventure trending?”
Death by Misadventure is certainly an interesting verdict in the Amy Winehouse and an interesting topic if you look into it. We found a 19th century British pharmaceutical journal where they would publish cases that included cocaine, sulphuric acid, carbolic acid and oil of vitriol, some substances ingested by mistake and others on purpose, but apparently not with the intent to commit suicide. That seems to be the case with Amy Winehouse who drank so much alcohol that it killed her, but not with the intention of doing herself in.
Here are some of the Death by Misadventure verdicts from 1895:
“Minnie Caroline Rowley, aged 42, died on Friday July 12 at 27 Sydney Grove South Islington from the effects of drinking carbolic acid contained in a ginger beer bottle in mistake for ginger beer. Verdict: Death by misadventure.”
“Thomas Carr, aged 37, of Downholland died on September 2 from the effects of drinking some weed killer containing a poison in mistake for beer. Verdict: Death from misadventure.”
Others died after taking substances prescribed by their doctors, like a cocaine solution to be applied to the gums, but in larger quantities than they should have.
