Cubs’ Alec Mills Pitches No-Hitter
Chicago Cubs righthander Alec Mills pitched the second no hitter of the 2020 season on September 13th, beating the Milwaukee Brewers 12-0 at Miller Park. Mills struck out five and walked three Brewers in the winning effort. It was only the 15th big league start for Mills, who has pitched in parts of four seasons, first with Kansas City and since 2018, with the Cubs. Mills is 5-3 with a 3.93 ERA in nine starts this season.
The other no hitter this year was thrown by Chicago White Sox’ Lucas Giolito back on August 25th. This is the first time that pitchers from both Chicago clubs have pitched no hitters in the same season. It was the first Cubs no hitter since Jake Arrieta tossed one in 2016, and 16th in franchise history. It’s the second Cubs no hitter at Miller Park, but the first one didn’t involve the Brewers. Back in September 2008, Cubs pitcher Carlos Zambrano no hit the Houston Astros in a game that was relocated to Milwaukee due to Hurricane Ike. The Brewers themselves have only one no hitter in their history; Juan Nieves no hit the Baltimore Orioles in Baltimore on April 15th, 1987.
