College Football Playoff Field Set (2019)
Now that the conference championship games are complete, the four team 2019-20 College Football Playoff field and matchups are set. The winners of the conference championships will compete for the national championship. The losers of the conference championship games still ended up with some nice bowl games as consolation prizes.
The #1 seed is LSU (13-0). The Tigers earned the top slot by decisively beating Georgia 37-10 in the SEC Championship. LSU quarterback Joe Burrow passed for 349 yards and four touchdowns in the victory.
The Bulldogs (11-2) will take on Baylor (11-2) in the Sugar Bowl. Baylor lost to Oklahoma (12-1) 30-23 in overtime in the Big 12 Conference Championship game. Speaking of Oklahoma, the Sooners are the #4 seed in the College Football Playoff, and will play LSU in the Peach Bowl in Atlanta in one semi final. The Sooners are making their third straight appearance in the CFB.
The other semi final, to be played in the Fiesta Bowl, will match #2 seed Ohio State (13-0) against #3 seeded Clemson (13-0). This will be Clemson’s fifth straight appearance in the CFB; they are the defending national champion and are going for their third title in four years. Clemson destroyed Virginia (9-4) 62-17 in the ACC championship. Despite having four losses, the Cavaliers will play Florida (10-2) in the Orange Bowl. Ohio State is making its first appearance since the 2014-15 season, when the Buckeyes won the championship. OSU beat Wisconsin 34-21 in the Big Ten championship. The Badgers (10-3) will play Oregon (11-2) in the Rose Bowl.
