Cleveland’s Corey Kluber Back On Track With Second Straight Stellar Performance

In 2014, Cleveland Indians right hander Corey Kluber was 18-9 with a 2.35 ERA and 269 strikeouts. He won the American League Cy Young Award for his outstanding season.

Things did not go well at the start of the 2015 season. After losing at Kansas City on May 7th, Kluber’s record stood at 0-5 with a 5.04 ERA. Sure, the Indians in general have underachieved, but those numbers just aren’t good. He gave up 19 earned runs in one 23 inning stretch.

Then on May 13th, Kluber had a victory over the St. Louis Cardinals, and what a performance it was: Eight innings, 18 strikeouts , one hit, one hit batsman, and no walks. On May 18th, he followed that up with a nine inning no decision against the Chicago White Sox where he gave up one run on five hits and a walk, with 12 strikeouts.

So it looks like Kluber is back to normal. Going into the games of May 19th, Cleveland was 14-23 and mired in last place in the American League Central, so a few other players will need to get back to normal real soon if the Indians want to salvage their season.
