Cleveland Indians beat Detroit Tigers In Bizarre Ending
The May 22nd Detroit Tigers at Cleveland Indians game had a little of everything. The five hour 16 minute game ended in the 13th inning, with Cleveland winning 11-10. Tigers’ All World first baseman Miguel Cabrera and manager Brad Ausmus were thrown out of the game for arguing balls and strikes. Cleveland used nine pitchers. The Indians scored two in the bottom of the ninth on a home run by David Murphy to tie the score 9-9 an send it to extra innings. Detroit’s Alex Avila hit a two out solo home run in the top of the 13th to give Detroit the lead. Then in the bottom of the 13th, Cleveland’s Michael Brantley, who has been red hot as of late, singled home a run to tie it again. The two runners on base then advance to second and third on a ground out.
Detroit changed pitchers, bringing in Al Alburquerque. Alburquerque intentionally walked pinch hitter Yan Gomes to load the bases and force an out at any base. The bases were loaded with two outs and Ryan Raburn at the plate for Cleveland. Then this happened:
Games don’t end with balks too often (the last time was in 2011). It’s a strange way to end a game, but it sure got Cleveland’s announcers excited. The victory Indians, last in the A.L. Central, swept the three game set with first place Detroit.
