Cavaliers Win, Stave Off Elimination Behind 41 Points from Kyrie Irving and LeBron James

It seemed like the perfect set of circumstances for the Golden State Warriors to put away the Cleveland Cavaliers and claim their second straight NBA title. Golden State was playing at home, where they rarely lose, and would have an even more than usual pumped up crowd, and the Cavaliers trailed in the series three games to one.

Well, not so fast. With Kyrie Irving and LeBron James seemingly scoring at will, the Cavaliers beat the Warriors 112-97, sending the series back to Cleveland for Game 6 June 16th. James and Irving each scored 41 points in the game, which was tied at halftime. Golden State was without power forward Draymond Green, who was serving a one game suspension for being assessed a Flagrant 1 Foul for an incident in Game 4 where he swung his arm and hit James south of the border. Green will be back for Game 6.

As I have said before, pro basketball and hockey both have such different post seasons than regular seasons. The switch from single games to a series format often favors those teams which can adjust better as well as the more physical teams. I think the Cavaliers provide an excellent case in point for both. Congratulations to LeBron for joining Abdul-Jabbar, Shaq, and Wilt as all-time greats who have lead two teams to the championship. Will he stand alone by guiding a third team?

One more game! If GSW wins, I hope it’s a blow out. Cleveland does not deserve another heart-breaking loss. It’s awesome how LeBron is showing how he is the player who is the most valuable PMV lol.
