Californication: Daughter Recap
“Daughter” is the penultimate episode of both the season and the entire show. It opens up at Julia’s where Hank has fallen asleep during an episode of “Santa Monica Cop.” Levon wakes him up and tells him how much it sucked, then heads off to bed. As soon as he’s out of the room, Julia gets all “come hither” with Hank. They take the action to her bedroom. Levon appears at the door to ask if he can sleep in “the annex” because he’s worried that “Santa Monica Cop” will be cancelled and they will all be out of a job. The annex turns out to be the floor nex to Julia’s bed. Just too creepy.
The next day, the hammer falls when Rick Rath comes on set to announce that the show was cancelled and they are all on hiatus. Levon wants to fight this injustice and Hashtag is down with that. But Rath says America has spoken and it’s a lost cause. He’ll be in his office drinking if anyone wants to stop by to say goodbye.
Hanks calls Charlie with that bad news and Marcy says she’ll have to accept Stu’s indecent proposal. Charles starts crying, both at that prospect and because he is a failure as a provider. Marcie has an idea. She gives Charlie permission to sleep with any woman for one night. It can only be once and he has to keep the details to himself but it will be fair. They get so excited over the prospect, it calls for a quickie.
Hank drops by to say goodbye and share a drink with Rath, who says he will probably just move on to another show. He advises Hank to write his own show using his own crazy life as the basis.
Charlie goes to a bar wher he spots a hottie and buys her a drink. She engages in sexual flirting with him, asking him to describe what he would do to her if she went to a cheap motel with him. Just when Charlie decides to bring the game to a physical demonstration level, her huge boyfriend shows up. When the woman tells him where Charlie wanted to take her and what he wanted to, Charlie gets punched in the nose.
Hanks tries to cheer Levon up with pizza and a movie. Becca drops by to see Hank who has went off to another part of the house. Levon realizes who Becca is and that she doesn’t know about him, but is all excited to meet her. When Hank returns, Levon wants him to tell Becca they are half-siblings. Julia, who was apparently also invited for pizza and movie night, comes over just then and she knows all about Becca, too.
Becca is more than a little confused, then Julia blurts out that it’s great that she has finally gotten to meet her brother. Becca is stunned and Hank is mortified. Levon just continues to be the total dork he has been all season.
Marcy drops in on Stu and tells him she is ready to go through with his offer. She wants to get it over with as soon as possible but something is just wrong so they decide to do it the next day. Marcy signs the contracts that Stu puts in front of her without reading them. Very foolish, Marcy! Stu retires to his bedroom to practice for the big day with his Marcy blow up doll.
Back at the pizza party, Karen has joined the group. Becca has a big announcement to make. But first Levon wants to get pouty that Becca won’t fall into his long-lost sister dreams. He gets really pissy when Hank tells him to back off, and plays the “you love her better” card.
Becca announces that she is marrying the boyfriend whose named Hank can’t even remember. Hank is horrifed and tells her she can’t. They go aside to talk privately and Becca reminds him that he is hardly the best person to be giving relationship advice. She says she is getting married like it or not and she is not going to let him make her feel bad about it.
