Californication: 30 Minutes or Less Recap

Hank is letting the inmates run the asylum during filming of “Santa Monica Cop” in “30 Minutes or Less” (S7 E8 – 6-1-2014). Hashtag Black wants to change the rules of milking the sexual tension and just kiss Amy Taylor Walsh passionately to make Julia jealous, so these “bitches” can start fighting. Julia takes exception to the Bruce Lee of Comedy’s choice of words. When Hank leans on the director to do his job, he’s no help, bringing up Goethe (Let’s be bold. Mighty forces will come to our aid), and supporting Hashtag’s position. Hashtag thinks Goethe is a bitch named Berta. Oh, the gags just never stop.

Hank goes off to find Rick Rath and Amy invites him to her trailer for fun. Rath shows up and tells Hank that Amy is a maneater, warning him against sleeping with the actresses. Things will go down the toilet. Then he wants to know how he can get back in the good graces of Julia (she’s an actress, too right?), who “haunts his dreams.” Hank advises him to let it go for a while. Rath wonders if Hank is “sniffing around,” but Hank denies it. After he leaves, Julia pops her head out of her trailer and invites Hank in. Levon’s 6th sense kicks in and he ruins that fun. He wants Hank to accompany him on his audition, which was too ridiculous for anyone to have to include in their recap.

Hank’s busy day continues with an encounter with Jade, who hits on him when he hides from Hashtag in her office. When he leaves, Hugh confides that he wants to date Jade and Hank tells him to go for it. Charlie Runkle comes by with his million dollar dilemma and as they are discussing it, Stu Beggs show up. Stu wants to put a clock on his offer. Charlie punches him in the gut. Hank tells Stu he insulted Charlie’s pride, but clueless Stu says the offer still stands (and don’t forget, Marcie wants the money). Hashtag arrives just in time to overhear Hank call him an asshole.

Hashtag and Hank smoke weed while Hashtag worries about the show flopping with his face on every billboard. That’s why he needs Hank to have him kiss Amy, so at least he’ll have that. He’s not into Julia because it’s too complicated — she has a kid with Hank and Rath wants her. Hashtag also wants to know if Terry is a man or woman. Hank doesn’t know even though he tried to find out from Jade. Darrell and DJ appear. They rewrote Hank’s scene as comedy like Hashtag wants. Terry delivers a message from Amy to come to her trailer. Terry offers to chaperone and Hank wants to ask her what her gender is, but can’t.

Amy shows Hank her lacy underthings and one thing lead to another until Hashtag bursts in. He is really upset to see Hank with Amy but she kicks him out, telling him to go sleep with one of the extras. “That’s what they’re for.”

Rath is pissed about the rewrite and halts filming. Hashtag blurts out that Hank was macking on Amy 5 minutes ago. After finding out what macking means, Julia is outraged that he was macking on Amy after he was inside her. Rath is appalled and says he never should have hired a toxic toddler like Hank. Amy doesn’t like playing second fiddle to a guest star. Levon thinks it means that Hank and Julia are getting back together. Rath wants to know where Hank’s sense of honor is. Hank refuses to apologize saying it’s none of Rath’s business who Julia wants to sleep with. Both of them are lucky she even looks in either of their directions. Julia and Amy just love that! Rath order filming to resume and if they don’t go according to the script they will be there all night.

Hank gets a call from Karen’s phone, but it’s Marcy. In the “30 minutes or less” that Hank was supposed to be on his way to meet Karen for a talk, fate has intervened. Karen got in a car accident and is in the hospital.
