Brewers Sweep Mets, Win Ninth Straight
Rookie outfielder Isaac Collins hit a solo home run in the bottom of the ninth inning off New York Mets closer Edwin Diaz to break up a 6-6 tie and give the Milwaukee Brewers another come from behind victory over the New York Mets on August 10th. The Brewers swept the three game series with the Mets in Milwaukee and reached a season high ninth straight victory.
Milwaukee trailed in all three games of the series. The loss was New York’s (63-55) seventh straight, dropping them 5 ½ games behind Philadelphia in the NL East. Milwaukee improved to a major league leading 73-44; the Brewers were 5 ½ games ahead of second place Chicago. The Cubs and St. Louis Cardinals were playing Sunday night, and a Cubs loss would drop them six games back.
Though Miami’s Agustin Ramirez and Atlanta’s Drake Baldwin are probably the favorites, Collins has been blisteringly hot since the beginning of June and should get some NL Rookie of the Year votes, especially if he continues to hit the way he has been. He’s hitting .295 with eight homers, 40 RBIs, 13 stolen bases, and an OPS of .843.
The Brewers will host the Pittsburgh Pirates for three games starting August 11th. The Mets return home to face the Atlanta Braves in a three game set beginning August 12th.
