Brewers and Cubs Clinch Playoff Berths; Rockies Take Over 1st Place in NL West

The Milwaukee Brewers swept a three game series in St. Louis to clinch their first playoff berth since 2011, while the Chicago Cubs also made it to the post season after defeating the Pittsburgh Pirates on September 26th. The Brewers improved to 92-67, while the Cubs narrowly remained in first place by a half game in the N.L. Central with a record of 92-66.

In the equally close N.L. West race, the Colorado Rockies took over first place by a half game over the Los Angeles Dodgers with a victory over the Philadelphia Phillies. The Rockies are rolling at the right time with six straight wins. Colorado is 88-70 and the Dodgers are 88-71.

The Cardinals (87-72) are now a game behind in the Wild Card race, and will play the Cubs in Chicago in a three game set over the weekend. With the Cubs fighting to remain in first and also to clinch the best record in the N.L., the series will have a playoff atmosphere. Chicago will also play one more game at Pittsburgh on September 27th. The Brewers will close out the regular season with three at home against the 64-94 Detroit Tigers. The Dodgers will be at 73-86 San Francisco, while Colorado has one more at Philadelphia before concluding at 81-78 Washington.
