Boardwalk Empire Characters: Season Two Fatalities
In the Season 2 premiere, “21,” four of Chalky White’s people were killed by the Ku Klux Klan when they ambushed Chalky and his crew. Chalky retaliated, shooting a Klansman who later died at St. Mark’s Hospital.
In “Ourselves Alone,” Jimmy Darmody kills two Masseria hoods after a poker game.
In Gimcrack and Bunkum, after a big fight with Nucky, Eli Thompson goes home and gets drunk. Ward Boss O’Neill (William Hill) picks the wrong time to threaten Eli, even if it is an empty threat. Eli beats him to death with a wrench. The O’Neill character appeared in 13 episodes of BE.
Jackson Parkhurst (Richard Easton) made a fortune in chipped beef but he lost his scalp after striking Jimmy Darmody with his cane when Jimmy flagrantly disrespected the older generation. That was the screwy thing about it. Jimmy really was out of line, but his mother never taught him you catch more bees with honey than vinegar. Jimmy enlisted Richard Harrow to help him exact bloody revenge.
In, “Age of Reason” Jimmy Darmody offs Herman Kaufman (a.k.a. Chaim, portrayed by Solomon Shiv) at Manny Horvitz‘ direction. Manny Horvitz kills the driver with the Luciano/Lansky team (Angelo Berkowitz) when he and Jimmy attempt to hijack their goods and instead make a deal.
Agent Clarkson (Joel Brady) presumably dies in this episode after having been severely burned in What Does the Bee Do, but not before his ramblings almost cause Nelson Van Alden to come clean. Clarkson unfortunately chose to investigate into Van Alden’s activities at the same time Owen Slater rigged a bomb to blow up all bootleg liquor. We don’t see it happen, but the nurse said he “doesn’t have long.”
In “Peg of Old,” Irishman Del Grogan (Gary Troy) meets his maker in an Atlantic City bar with the help of Owen Slater who has been chasing him down for 5 years.
Ethan Thompson (Tom Aldredge) dies of a heart attack in “Two Boats and a Lifeguard,” after getting upset when the Feds try to serve a subpoena on Eli.
Irish nationalist John McGarrigle (Ted Rooney) was standing in the way of the cause in “Battle of the Century,” and a decision was made to rectify that. Alfred Gordetsky (Scott Burik) literally gets the axe when he tries to do Manny Horvitz in on Waxey Gordon’s instructions.
Angela Darmody (Aleksa Palladino) and her lover Louise (Kristin Sieh) become collateral damage in Georgia Peaches when Manny Horvitz drops by Jimmy’s to even up the score.
Commodore Louis Kaestner (Dabney Coleman) tries to save Gillian from strangulation at her son’s hands in “Under God’s Power She Flourishes,” but ends up on the wrong end of Jimmy’s knife.
In “To The Lost,” Jimmy Darmody wants to make amends with Nucky, but first he and Harrow knock off a couple of Klansmen to get them to reveal the names of the men wanted by Chalky White. Herb Crocker, Dick Heatherton are named and the third one takes off running. They are delivered to Chalky who is asked to tell Nucky Jimmy wants to talk. As the Klansmen meet their doom, Harrow tells Jimmy: “Whatever you do to try to change things — you know he’ll never forgive you.” Harrow and Jimmy assist in acquitting Nucky by having former Ward Boss, now Interim Treasurer, James Neary (Robert Clohessy) sign a confession blaming everything on Eli. Neary actually thinks he’s going to survive to tell someone he signed the confession at gunpoint. He doesn’t.
Jimmy tells Nucky that Eli was behind the attempt on his life, but Eli insists it was Jimmy and, well, sometimes blood really is thicker than water — for far different reasons than love and loyalty.
“I am not seeking forgiveness.” are the last words James Edison Darmody hears in this world.
