Blue Jays Pound Rockies 20-1
The Toronto Blue Jays have the best record (68-48) in the American League, due in no small part to their offense. That was on display in a three game sweep of the Colorado Rockies in Denver on August 4th-6th.
The Jays outscored the Rockies 45-6 in the three games, pounding out a major league record 63 hits for a three game series. The Jays won Game 1 15-1, Game 2 10-4, and outdid themselves with a 20-1 rout in the series finale.
The Rockies actually had the lead 1-0 in Game 3 on August 6th, but the Jays took that away with three runs in the third inning, three more in the fifth, and two in the eighth. Colorado was down 12-1 going into the ninth, and decided to have backup catcher Aaron Nola pitch the ninth. Nola pitched the entire inning, allowing eight runs, including a pair of homers.
Three Blue Jays had four RBIs apiece, including Davis Schneider who had two of the five Toronto home runs. Ty France was 4-4 with three doubles. Ernie Clement and Vlad Guerrero each had four hits including a homer. The Jays had 24 hits, while the Rockies were held to three, as Colorados nightmare season (30-84) continues.
