Beat Shazam Recap: June 10, 2019

In Beat Shazam’s third season, the 4th episode is being called a Bi-Coastal Battle Royale. Let’s join host Jamie Foxx and deejay Corinne for another great hour of big song hits and big money for knowing their titles.

Here are the 3 teams:

Peter & Jessica, a DJ brother & singing sister from Columbia in the Palmetto State (SC)
Alan & Taheem, soul singers from uptown Brooklyn in the Empire State (NY)
Andrew & Justine, a band member & a music trivia expert & best friends from Santa Monica in the Golden State (CA)

Round 1 – Shazam Shuffle
First 4 are worth $2000 each. The last one (Fast Track) is worth $4000.

This was between SC and NY, and it went to SC at 1.71 vs. 1.83. CA went with “Ms. Jackson.”
2. THE RAT PACK: “The Candy Man” (Sammy Davis, Jr.)

Everyone got it. NY had the magic touch at 1.55. Jamie treated the audience to a few Sammy Davis impressions
3. GRAMMY WINNERS: “Rehab” (Amy Winehouse)
SC $2000 NY $2000 CA $2000
Yes, yes, yes! Everybody got this in under 2 seconds. CA was fastest at 1.18 for a 3-way tie
4. ’80s: “What I Like About You” (The Romantics)
SC $2000 NY $4000 CA $2000
Only NY got this one. The other teams went for “R.O.C.K. in the USA”
5. FAST TRACK – PITBULL: “Give Me Everything” (Pitbull Ft. Ne-Yo, Afrojack & Nayer)
SC $2000 NY $4000 CA $6000
Only CA got this one. The other teams picked “Tonight.”

Andrew & Justine (CA) took a $2K lead with that one over Alan & Taheem (NY) at $4,000. Peter & Jessica (SC) have $2,000. At least each team got on the board.

Round 2: That’s My Jam! Only one team went for Country so it was time for the Disco ball to come out.
First 3: $3000 each. Fast Track: $6000
1. “Right Back Where We Started From” (Maxine Nightingale)

This was between NY & CA. The cash went to NY (2.11 vs. 2.51), putting them in the lead right outta the gate
2. “Boogie Nights” (Heatwave)
SC $2000 NY $10,000 CA $6000
Everyone was on it. NY scored again at 1.54
3. “You Make Me Feel Like Dancing” (Leo Sayer)
SC $2000 NY $10,000 CA $9000
SC went for the Sam Cooke title so it was between NY & CA. They both came in under 2 seconds, only CA did it faster: 1.59 to NY’s 1.79
4. FAST TRACK: Got to Be Real” (Cheryl Lynn)
SC $2,000 NY $10,000 CA $15,000
Team CA had the only right title and they were back in the lead!

It was so long to Peter & Jessica (SC) now. As we head into Round 3, Andrew & Justine (CA) have a $5,000 lead over Alan & Taheem (NY).

Round 3: Corinne’s Choice: Sexy Songs.
First 3: $5000 each. Fast Track: $10,000.

Both teams blew it on this one!
2. “2 Become 1” (The Spice Girl)
NY $10,000 CA $20,000
Both team got it right, but it was another victory for CA, 1.68 to 1.81
3. “Shake You Down” (Gregory Abbott)
NY $15,000 CA $20,000
NY got it at 1.18 to 1.58 for CA
4. FAST TRACK: “Lady Marmalade” (Christina Aguilera, Lil’ Kim, Mya and Pink)
NY $25,000 CA $20,000
NY nailed it at 1.40 to 1.57 for CA

As often happens, the lead changed hands on the Fast Track. Here we go with the deciding round, and the Boys from Brooklyn (NY) are heading into the next round with $5K more than Andrew & Justine (CA).

Round 4: Without Words.
First 3: $10,000 each. Fast Track: $20,000. High score goes on to try to Beat Shazam.

Both teams got it, but NY took the money (1.22 vs. 1.47)
2. “Everybody Wants to Rule the World)” (Tears for Fears)
NY $45,000 CA $30,000
Well, lookee here. Both teams clocked in at 1.19 and a tie means they both get the money!
3. “Feel It Still” (Portugal. The Man)
NY $55,000 CA $30,000
NY got it with the only correct title and locked CA out in the process
4. FAST TRACK: “Higher Ground” (Stevie Wonder)
NY $55,000 CA $50,000
CA got it at 1.22 to 1.35 for NY

That was a meaningful last win for CA. NY didn’t need it to win, but Andrew & Justine are taking home $25,000, or half their bank now. Congrats! Alan & Taheem about to tangle with Shazam in the final round.

One Million Beat Shazam Round – 6 songs
First 5: $25,000 each. They only get a shot at one million dollar on the last song if they get the first 5 right. There are no multiple choice screens and they have to know the song’s exact title before Shazam to be right.
1. Made in the U.K.: “Rock the Casbah” (The Clash) – $80,000
2. Pop: “My Humps” (The Black Eyed Peas) – Taheem came up with “My Pump” to the groans of many!
3. Alternative: “If You Could Only See” (Tonic) – They missed this one too.
4. R&B: “Too Hot” (Kool & the Gang) – Alan was back in the groove – $105,000
5. Power Ballads: “Broken Wings” (Mr. Mister) – $130,000
They began the round with $55,000 and scooped up another $75,000.

Alan & Taheem can now double their money by taking on one last song. If they know that song before Shazam, they will win $260,000. If they miss it, “however”, their $130,000 will drop all the way down to $65,000 (and they have to split that!). Jamie told them that they would be dealing with the “2000s” if they chose to take the final challenge. Taheem seemed a little sketchy about it but Alan said “Do you trust me?” Apparently he does because they decided to go for double or half. Only one of them could play and Alan wanted to be that one. He knew “How to Save a Life” by The Fray mighty fast and was so confident it was right that he started saying “give me my money” before the answer was even shown. Jamie said he never saw a man in a pomegranate sweater be so aggressive. lol. Shazam showed that the answer was correct and then some computer voiceover on my recording said “Taheem jumps in Alan’s arms.” (omg! I have no idea where that came from).
