Angels Losing Streak Hits 13 Straight

The Los Angeles Angels fired manager Joe Madden after the club lost its 12st straight game on June 6th, replacing him for at least the rest of the season with third base coach Phil Nevin. Inspired by the change, the Angels promptly went out and lost their 13th straight, a 6-5 defeat at the hands of the Boston Red Sox.

To make matters worse, Angels’ star Mike Trout left the game with what is described as “left groin tightness”. Trout leads the Angels with 14 homers, and has 30 RBIs in 52 games. The club has been bitten by the injury bug. Right Fielder Taylor Ward, hitting .333 with 10 homers and 26 RBIs in 38 games, is on the shelf with a hamstring strain. Third baseman Anthony Redon has been plagued by injuries the last two years, but had 15 RBIs in 22 games in May before hitting the injured list again.

The Angels record dropped to 27-30 with this 13th loss in a row, and are tied with the Texas Rangers for 2nd place in the AL West, 9 ½ games behind the Houston Astros. Even though there’s still along way to go in the season, it will be tough for L.A. to catch the Astros, but if they fall short in the division race, the talent is there to make it as a Wild Card. Remember, this is the club that has last year’s A.L. MVP Shohei Ohtani.
