Aaron Rodgers Throws Six First Half Touchdown Passes as Packers Rout Bears
Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers tied a 45 year old NFL record by throwing six touchdown passes is the first half of the Packers game against the Chicago Bears on November 9th, propelling Green Bay to a 55-14 over the rapidly sinking Bears. The record was set back in 1969 by Daryle Lamonica of the Oakland Raiders.
With the rout on, Rodgers was lifted halfway through the third quarter with the score 45-0. This was actually his second six TD pass game in his career; in 2012 he threw six in a full game against the Houston Texans.
Meanwhile, the Bears (3-6) have huge issues. The team that was known for years for its fierce defense has now given up 106 points in its last two games. A screen pass to Eddie Lacy turned into a 57 yard touchdown. Jordy Nelson had six catches, two for touchdowns, and 152 yards. The Bears secondary seemed to have no idea how to defend him, or any other Green Bay receiver, for that matter. Bears QB Jay Cutler dropped to 1-10 against the Packers; he threw two interceptions, including one returned for a touchdown. Green Bay also shifted outside linebacker Clay Matthews to the inside to help the Packers’ run defense; he had 11 tackles and a sack. If things continue the way they have been, Bears’ first year coach Marc Trestman could be a one and done guy.
Green Bay improved 10 6-3 but still trails the Detroit Lions, who improved to 7-2 by beating Miami. The Packers and Lions will close out the regular season on December 28th, and while a lot can happen between now and then, that game could have huge playoff implications.
