Aaron Judge Hits His 50th Home Run of the Season

New York Yankees right fielder Aaron Judge hit his 50th home run of the season on August 29th, connecting off Angels’ right hander Ryan Tepera in Anaheim. Judge became the 10th player in major league history to record multiple 50 home run seasons. He hit 52 in 2017. The Angels held on to win 4-3.

The Yankees’ club record for single season home runs is still the 61 that Roger Maris hit in 1961. It is also still the American League record, though that number was broken six times by three players in the National League during the steroid era. Barry Bonds holds the major league record with 73.

There was a sellout crowd on hand for the game, with lots of Yankees fans waiting to see Judge hit #50. The Angels (56-73) are slogging through yet another lost season, despite having two of the best players in the game in three time AL MVP Mike Trout (back from an injury) and last year’s MVP Shohei Ohtani, who hit his 29th home run of the season in the game. Angels owner Arte Moreno is looking at options for the future, including selling the franchise, which has not been to the post season since 2014.
