Georgia Wins 1st Collage Football Championship in 41 Years

Back in December, Georgia was soundly beaten 41-24 by Alabama in the SEC Championship game. They met again in the College Football Championship game on January 10th. This time, when it counted the most, the Bulldogs prevailed 33-18 to win Georgia’s 1st national championship since 1980.

Alabama had Heisman Trophy winning quarterback Bryce Young, and although he passed for 369 yards and a touchdown (with two interceptions), this game belonged to Georgia QB Stetson Bennett. The former walk on threw two touchdown passes in the Bulldogs’ 20 point fourth quarter that put the otherwise close game out of reach. Georgia defensive back Kelee Ringo sealed the deal with a 79 yard interception return for a touchdown with less than a minute to play.

The win not only avenged Georgia’s loss in the SEC championship, it also avenged the Crimson Tides’ 26-23 win over the Bulldogs in the 2017-18 season championship game, and prevented Alabama from repeating as champion. Alabama has played in six of the last seven championship games, but has not repeated as champ in three opportunities.
