Alabama, Michigan, Georgia, and Cincinnati Selected for College Football Playoff

The conference champions have been decided in college football, and the four team College Football Playoff (CFP) field, as well as the teams for other bowl games, have been selected.

Defending National Champion Alabama (12-1) is the #1 seed in the CFP following the Crimson Tides’ 41-24 drubbing of previously unbeaten Georgia (12-1). The Bulldogs still made the field, but as the #3 seed. Michigan (12-1) destroyed Iowa 42-3 in the Big Ten Championship game and is the #2 seed. The Wolverines have some momentum going with two lopsided wins over Ohio State and Iowa in the last two weeks. Michigan will play Georgia in a semifinal in the Orange Bowl on December 31st. Both are making their first appearance in the CFP.

Alabama is a frequent participant in the CFP, but the Crimson Tides’ opponent not only is making its first appearance, it’s also the first time a non Power Five conference team made the field. Cincinnati is the only Division I school that is undefeated at this point in the season. The Bearcats (13-0) are from the American Athletic Conference, and they beat an 11-1 Houston team to win the conference championship and a berth in the CFP. Cincinnati is the #4 seed, and will face Alabama in the Cotton Bowl on December 31st. The winners of the semi finals will play for the College Football Championship on January 10th.
