WHAT IS STARRY NIGHT?

The 2008 New York Times article that contains the quotes in the clue is actually a comparison of Vincent Van Gogh’s “Cypresses” and “The Starry Night”. Both works were painted in June 1889 and, at the time of the article, were on loan to Yale University Art Gallery from the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Museum of Modern Art, respectively.

Did you know? There is an earlier painting by Jean-François Millet with the name “Nuit Étoilée (Starry Night)” mentioned in the article. Its home is at Yale but, at the time of the Van Gogh Exhibit, it was on loan to the Museum of Fine Arts in Houston. Van Gogh’s painting is actually “The Starry Night” but due to Jeopardy!’s rules, it is okay to write just “Starry Night” for Van Gogh or “The Starry Night” for Millet’s painting.
