A few years ago, in this post, here’s what I said about Buzzy Cohen succeeding Alex Trebek: “He’s got great timing, just the right balance of cheeky humor and seriousness, and… he’s got style.”

The more I see of Brooke Burns, the more I think that description also fits her. If Sony is thinking of a female host, I think they should definitely pick Brooke.

@VJ – I’m in 100% agreement w/ you regarding Brooke Burns being a great choice of becoming the next host of J! once Alex decides to call it quits. Although his shoes will be impossible for anybody to fill, I honestly think that she’d do a superb job hosting J! for multiple reasons…

      1. She reads the questions/clues both articulately and rapidly; with her behind the podium, I think we’d rarely see any clues left on the boards!

      2. She’s SO charming & personable when interacting with the players. Shes like part hostess and part cheerleader! She was like that on The Chase, too. Just yesterday, my wife (who knows I’m a huge fan of hers!) asked if I knew if she was actually that pleasant in real life or if maybe she’s putting on an act on the show. My reply was, “If that’s an act, they should give her an Oscar because her sincerity and thoughtfulness on stage seems ultra-convincing to me!”

      3. She has a great sense of humor! The way she used to verbally spar with Mark “The Beast” Labbett was comical! She’d regularly go toe-to-toe with him, and considering what mighty big toes he had compared to her’s, she always held her own! She’d be a fan favorite and a hit with the contestants on the show, as well…

I agree with both of you about Brooke except you left out one important ingredient. She is truly intelligent and has a wide breadth of knowledge. I noticed that on The Chase. When Merv Griffin was alive and asked to compare Alex Trebek to Art Fleming I recall him saying in a TV interview that Alex is the real deal and knows his stuff whereas Art just read what was on the cards. Fast forward to Brooke I would repeat what Merv Griffin said about Alex. Brooke is the real deal and knows her stuff. She would be a fantastic host for Jeopardy. She’s real quick on the uptake. Absolutely brilliant imo.

      • JJ says:

You are spot on, Jacob, and shame on me for not including/highlighting her intellect in my breakdown, too. I remember an episode on The Chase when Mark missed a question about food and she, teasingly of course, said to him “Now it’s my turn to school you on a food question, mister!” It was a question about Bulgogi, which, as Brooke explained, is a Korean dish that translates to “fire meat”. (The Beast thought it was Brazilian.) The exchange was a perfect combination of being charming and being a hoot!
I asked my wife for her thoughts about Brooke being the next host on J! and she may have summed it up best. Her reply… “Why not?! There’s absolutely nothing offensive about her…”
(BUT, if she is offered an audition for the job, I do want to hear her use the word “genre” in a sentence. That could make or break her chances of getting the gig!) 😉

    • VJ says:

Thanks for your additions, guys. I agree with everything you both said.
