WHAT IS ST. AUGUSTINE (FLORIDA)?

The St. Augustine Social Magazine has an article about the discovery of human remains under the floor of David White’s establishment after Hurricane Matthew hit the city. I think it makes it a little more clear than most other articles why White contacted then city archaeologist Carl Halbirt and invited him to dig around in the space underneath his damaged floors. Part of the location of Nuestra Señora de los Remedios, reportedly the city’s first church, had already been established. White’s business was in that vicinity. In addition to skeletal remains, Halbirt and volunteers found ceramic and pottery pieces from the 16th century.
