New York Islanders Set Franchise Point Streak

The New York Islanders won four Stanley Cups in a row in the early 80s, but they’ve done something in 2019 that they didn’t do during that dynasty. On November 21st, the Islanders beat the Pittsburgh Penguins 4-3 in overtime, marking a franchise record of 16 straight games earning a point. They are 15-0-1 in that time; their last loss in regulation was way back on October 11th. They had an overtime loss on November 7th.

The Islanders improved to 16-3-1 (33 points) on the season. Despite this point streak, New York still trails the Washington Capitals in the NHL Metropolitan Conference standings. Washington, however, has played four more games and is 16-4-4, 36 points. That’s the best record in the Eastern Conference; the Islanders and Boston Bruins, the leaders in the Atlantic Conference, both have 33 points. The Islanders will be hitting the road for eight of their next 10 games, beginning with a three game California trip to San Jose, Anaheim, and Los Angeles.
