Its anthem was adopted in 1947 to replace one by Joseph Haydn that had been tainted by association with Nazis

James found the last Daily Double in “Fill in Their Dates” under the $800 clue, with a dozen clues left after it. In the lead with $31,412, he had $22,012 more than Megan in second place. In view of the previous 3 stumpers, he said “this category seems hard” and only bet $5,000. As it turned out, it was easy and he was RIGHT.

Only ONE of the contestants got Final Jeopardy! right.
According to the Austrian Federal Chancellery, the Austrian national anthem, “The Bundeshymne” was officially adopted on 25 February 1947, after a contest was held by the Federal Government to put words to the tune that had been selected earlier in 1946. Although the tune was believed to have been composed by Mozart, that has been disputed by recent research that attributes it to Johann Holzer. The original text was written by Paula Preradović. (Note: they don’t appear to have an English translation of this page even though it says “Deutsch / Englisch” at top right. That will just bounce you back to the home page but you might get a pop up for a Google translation.) Click here for info on the previous Joseph Haydn anthem, still used in part as Germany’s national anthem.

Rob wrote down Belgium. He lost everything but a dollar.

James got it right. He bet $17,000 and won this match with $58,612. His 31-day total is $2,382,583. They should play “Anticipation” instead of the regular think music starting tomorrow!

I agree with Cece.
Does anyone know how many more ‘new’ shows there are? I know they finished taping some time ago, but how far ahead do they go?
Marianne, the season usually runs til the end of July. idk if it ends on 7/26 or 8/2, but that’s another 8 or 9 weeks. 10 of those games will be devoted to the Teen Tournament.
Will James Holzhauer’s streak come to an end? We will find out in the future.
He won’t, unless he reached 75 games or more.
He won’t make it to 75.
No way. He WILL make it.
We’ll see. Ken’s streak ended on what was, to me, an easy Final which demonstrated a gap in his knowledge. Since not every one of James’ games has been a runaway, this could happen to him in one of the next forty-plus games.
This was the first time James showed hesitation when making his DD wager. It was interesting to see that he is human after all.
Why did James told Alex to skip him after he interviewed Megan?
@Richard, because as it says, this guy needs no introduction.
I loved that Tea category today. My mom always used that expression “not for all the tea in China.” Megan knows her teas. I’m a coffee gal. I make my own iced coffee “all the days” (as my granddaughter would say).
I thought that Rob and Megan had great voices once I got to hear them!
It was funny when Alex gave the answer after the third TS in Fill in Their Dates (Elizabeth I), and Rob said “of course.” 😀 And they sure pulled a fast one on them with those first 2 clues in that category! That cost James some $$.

Another win for James since geography is his strong subject. I thought his opponents should have gotten this one since it was asking for a European country with the national anthem. Furthermore Megan is a librarian and most of them should know plenty about world flags and their anthems, right VJ? What was Rob thinking with Belgium?
I didn’t say anything about any clues being flawed. $138,118 is the amount James needs for Kenjen’s record to be topped, probably will happen Monday. Megan noted on Reddit that Alex announced his cancer diagnosis during the lunch break of the taping of this week’s shows, which would have occurred between the Wednesday and Thursday shows. Ergo, this is the first show taped after it was known to contestants that Alex had cancer. Monday is the first show taped after his announcement went viral on 3/6(the Teacher’s tournament was taped after next week’s shows were)
It’s a great feeling to know any Triple Stumper clue in the James Era.
I got a kick this morning reading the comments from a certain former prolific poster on this site posting on a certain other Jeopardy fan site arguing strenuously that the FJ clue today was flawed. At least I’m 99% sure it’s the same person, even though they have a different name, based on certain very specific biographical details and certain, let’s say, personality quirks evident from their postings.
@JP It would be better if you look at the website of the Austrian government. The clue IS correct.
I’m in full agreement with you. I was not intending to endorse the view that the clue was in error, although I can see how that was not 100% clear from my post.
@JP, fwiw, it was 100% clear to me what you meant (lol). btw, the CIA World Factbook also gives 1947 as the year the anthem was adopted. (I assume they got their facts from the Austrian government).
I’m glad that guy hasn’t been posting lately. What a pompous know-it-all that guy is. He was soooooo annoying.
@Albert you mean John B/I right? I know he has been like this for almost a year or so. But I am glad he stopped. Still we are happy he isn’t going to post unless he changes for the better.
@Albert—I couldn’t have said it better.
@ Lou—I’ve always liked your gentleness.. Me? I stopped believing people can change.
