James found the last Daily Double in “Fill in Their Dates” under the $800 clue, with a dozen clues left after it. In the lead with $31,412, he had $22,012 more than Megan in second place. In view of the previous 3 stumpers, he said “this category seems hard” and only bet $5,000. As it turned out, it was easy and he was RIGHT.

WHAT IS AUSTRIA?

According to the Austrian Federal Chancellery, the Austrian national anthem, “The Bundeshymne” was officially adopted on 25 February 1947, after a contest was held by the Federal Government to put words to the tune that had been selected earlier in 1946. Although the tune was believed to have been composed by Mozart, that has been disputed by recent research that attributes it to Johann Holzer. The original text was written by Paula Preradović. (Note: they don’t appear to have an English translation of this page even though it says “Deutsch / Englisch” at top right. That will just bounce you back to the home page but you might get a pop up for a Google translation.)
