Dodgers’ Cody Bellinger is Putting Up Triple Crown Numbers
The Los Angeles Dodgers took two of three from the Cincinnati Reds over the May 17th-May 19th weekend to improve to 31-17, the best record in the National League. One reason for the Dodgers’ success in the first two months of the 2019 season has been the play of shortstop Cody Bellinger.
Bellinger hit a home on May 17th and then hit this one on May 19th, his 17th of the season:
After games of May 19th, Bellinger was second in home runs in the N.L. behind Milwaukee’s Christian Yelich, who had 19. Bellinger was tied for the lead in RBIs with Pittsburgh’s Josh Bell at 44. But the most remarkable stat was Bellinger’s batting average which stood at .405. It’s rare that anyone is hitting over .400 after the first two months of the season, and Bellinger won’t be the first major leaguer to hit .400 since Ted Williams in 1941, but it’s outstanding nonetheless. It’s too early to be doing this with two thirds of the season left, but some see a race between last year’s MVP, Yelich, and Bellinger for the 2019 N.L. MVP Award.
