Yeah, Marvin’s was a big hit over here also, but I always preferred Gladys Knight & the Pips version myself

That would be semantics and make Andrew a sore loser. The “Marseillaise” and “The French National Anthem” are as interchangeable as “God Save the Queen” and the “National Anthem of the U.K.” or “Fratelli d’Italia” and the “Italian National Anthem”,
etc.
Her answer was wrong. Andrew named the anthem, Star Spangled Banner! Adriana’s answer was generic. If the clue had been about any other nation, and she didn’t know the name of their song, she could have said. ____’ s national anthem, she would won? Not fair to Andrew.
Did anyone notice that in the clip the 2 lines from “”whose broad stripes” to “so gallantly streaming” are left out? After “gleaming” they continue with
“and the rocket’s red glare…”
Idk if it’s a cut in the tape, but it seems uninterrupted to me.
Well, sometimes the Russian anthem is cut short, since it’s really long.

The last third of the Russian anthem is a repeat of the first third and the whole thing lasts about 4 minutes if played completely…..so at sport events they sometimes end it after 2/3s. Something did not sound quite right, so I recited the lyrics of our anthem in my head and there it was….Regardless, WHAT A GESTURE!!
I have a question, please. Alex said to Dylan, you end up in the red so won’t be around for FJ. Would he have been allowed to play FJ if he had $0 (not a “red” amount in J!)?
@klm, no, you have to have something to bet to play FJ
@klm, Nope, afraid not. If anyone scores zero or below at the end of the second round, they won’t be around for final jeopardy. They will automatically go home with the minimum of 1000 dollars. If you have seen the previous contestants like riley Westmoreland and so forth, they went home with the same amount.
Dylan Hamilton is now DISMISSED. Like how Adamson played yesterday in Game 2 of the UAAP Finals, he struggled and unfortunately, it’s a no-doubt victory for Adriana. I have a feeling she will go 4.
Well, pretty much what everybody expected in terms of correct responses, even if we could get only 2, since Dylan crashed today.
Congratulations to Adriana, the 3 DDs (relatively easy imo, esp. the first 2) where she collected 9K did not hurt, they won her the game. Smart bet by Andrew, it was all he could do. He would have won if Adriana had been wrong, even if he himself had been wrong as well, provided she would bet the necessary and probable 9.601.
A softball FJ after 3 tough ones (Montreal/Munich, Hawthorne and McDormand).
Too bad this gesture by the British kind of went almost unnoticed in the aftermath of 9/11.
Her Majesty is a class act to have ordered this, especially when you consider that the British usually do NOT break tradition easily.
@John, the fellow who wrote that article I linked to agreed with you that it was remarkable that the Queen broke tradition: “the Queen stands on ceremony and she has a lot of ceremony to stand on.”
I couldn’t believe that Dylan threw away his chance to play FJ with his last 2 guesses.
One of them was the “What’s Going On” singer that was a triple stumper. (not for anyone on Spoiler Talk, I trust, since we just had a Sporcle Quiz on his songs last week)
Well, even if Dylan had gotten the last 2 clues he would have had no chance. For one, Adriana was too far ahead and today’s FJ was really easy. So the chance for her to miss it were pretty much nil.
Funny how you don’t hear about something or someone for years and then twice in a row. When your quiz about Marvin came up, I had to really think hard . Especially since only a few of his songs were a real hit in Europe and he died just 3 months after I came to the States. I take it you were/are a fan of his?
Well, I have a favorite song for most of the singers of that time period. I know that “What’s Going On” was particularly popular, but my favorite song by him is “That’s the Way Love is” (sho’ nuff how it is).
Dylan’s performance in today’s game was a disappointment. After missing two final jeopardy questions, I doubt he will be able to recover from this loss. I wonder what impacted his performance, VJ and John? And here I thought he was toc worthy. But congrats to Adriana. No changes are made to the toc since the woman was at the top of her game making a huge runaway. Still I found that Madonna reference pretty funny. Dylan, you are dismissed!

I too thought that Dylan would perform better. The last 3 FJs yielded only 2 correct answers out of possibly 9. And only 1 of the 2 correct FJ answers won the game. So I figured if a “normal ” FJ would come along, Dylan would get it. Was not meant to be. He never got a chance to even respond.Adriana on the other hand- though the 3 DDs helped her (because she got all of them RIGHT too)- might ( if she wins tomorrow and proves today was not a fluke) go to 4 or more wins. Then Ali would be the next to bite the dust. Nice payday, by the way!!!! Over 30 grand- not too shabby!!
We’ll see what tomorrow’s FJ brings. We had 3 tough ones in a row and today…well, somebody could have thought “God Bless America” or “America the Beautiful”,but unlikely. Today was pretty much a “gimme”.
@Lou Indeed Dylan Hamilton is officially DISMISSED, like Adamson, who after having a twice-to-beat advantage, GOT THE BOOT from UP. I followed every minute of the UAAP Final Four Game 2 on Twitter, and boy, Philippine college basketball is so different than America’s.

Jeopardy is truly a baffling and humbling game. One minute a person looks like a potential 20-game champ, and the next game is completely blown out of the water.

It goes with the categories. You get 2 in a row where you are good and wipe the floor with your competition. Then there is a category where you have no clue and to add insult to injury, another player does and you look like a dunce.
The reason I am watching is that you learn something new every time. Some things are worth remembering, others not so much. But you never know all the answers, so J is a very good learning tool and also shows you – rather often – what mistakes one can make and should avoid. It’s fun AND education.
If you are smart enough to know what might be important for you, especially when you are still young or in a certain profession then J can help you A LOT.
Just my opinion. You can really use it to your advantage and have an entertaining game to watch as well. Plus it broadens your horizon since there are so many different categories. You hear and learn things that you never hear in school.
