Capitals Beat Golden Knights in Stanley Cup Finalists’ Rematch

The Vegas Golden Knights have had four months to absorb their Stanley Cup Finals loss to the Washington Capitals. The Knights had an incredible run last season, going to the Finals in just their first season, and of course, hopes are high they can follow up and take that final step to a championship. To that end, they added veteran forward Max Pacioretty in a trade with Montreal, and signed ex Winnipeg center Paul Stastny as a free agent. The team only had to wait until Game 4 of the 2018-19 season to get another crack at the Capitals, taking on the champs in Washington on October 10th.

It didn’t work out so well, as the combination of Alex Ovechkin and Evgeny Kuznetsov proved to be too much again as the Capitals beat the Knights 5-2. Ovechkin scored two goals, and Kuznetsov assisted on those and one by Nicklas Backstrom, as well as scoring one of his own. T.J Oshie completed the scoring with a late empty netter. Ovechkin scored the 610th, and 611th goals of his career, passing Bobby Hull for 17th place on the all time scoring list.

Unlike last season, the Knights are off to a slow start this year and are just 1-3. The Capitals are 2-0-1. The Knights will get their next shot at the Capitals in Las Vegas on December 4th, in the only other regular season meeting between the two.
