So Long to Fiona Gallagher After Season 9 of Shameless
Just one week ahead of the Season 9 premiere of Shameless, actress Emmy Rossum announced that this will be her last season on Showtime’s long-running dramedy. In a long farewell letter, Rossum wrote on Facebook that she considers the opportunity to play the oldest Gallagher a gift. “Quite simply,” she said, “the last eight years have been the best of my life.”
Rossum says the show will continue on without her and that her fans should “try not to think of me as gone, just think of me as moving down the block.” So it seems that the door is being left open for return visits from Fiona. it’s a helluva thing to drop right before the show starts up again but it will likely convince a decent amount of disenchanted viewers to stick around for Season 9. The question is where is Fiona going?
When we last left Fiona, she had her eye on making it big in the real estate business and she had her eye on Ford, the Renaissance man with multiple ex-girlfriends who are all pals. He’s also the father of multiple children via sperm donation and two of Fiona’s tenants are expecting little Fords.
Ford is played by Richard Flood and if you take a look at his IMDB profile, you will see that he is in every episode of Season 9, so there’s the possibility that Fiona will tame her Irish carpenter’s bachelor ways and go off to the Emerald Isle as Mrs. Ford. Fiona has had more than her share of love gone wrong so that would be a nice way to write her out of the show, then eventually have her come back when that inevitably goes wrong.
In the meantime, here’s the Season 9 trailer. It looks like Fiona will be involved in plenty of Gallagher family drama, besides being involved with Ford. Shameless returns to Showtime on Sunday, September 9, 2018.

@VJ – Hmmm… I wonder how entertaining this show will be w/out Fiona? She & Lip have become the anchors of the series BUT Fiona has been showing some big time signs of putting her needs before the needs & wants of her sibs. I guess we’ll soon find out w/ the new season right around the corner! 😎
@JJ, well, we won’t have to think about it much till next season but remember, we talked about how if any of them became successful, the show would fall apart? So it makes sense that she becomes successful and leaves, especially since her try and fail plots, as well as her revolving love life, have become tired.
So I’m thinking it could be more entertaining than it’s been in a while

Thanks, JJ. I fully expect that this report will affect how I see this entire season though. I mean, I know it’s not like Monica dying but still, I’m like WTH??? how would it have been if they announced Chloe Webb would be leaving the show right at the start of the season when that happened?
