Miami Stages Big Comeback, Wisconsin Tops Michigan in Relatively Upset Free College Football Weekend

Miami scored 30 unanswered points to overcome a two touchdown second half deficit and beat Virginia 44-28 and Wisconsin beat Michigan 24-10 for the school’s first 11-0 start to the season to highlight the second to last regular season weekend of the 2017 college football season.

The top nine schools in the AP Top 25 remained unchanged, and the College Football Playoff rankings are likely to remain unchanged as well when that poll comes out later this week. Alabama, #1 in both polls, beat Mercer 56-0. Clemson, #2 in the CFP and #4 in the AP Poll, beat The Citadel 61-3. Much has been said about Wisconsin’s (#5 in both polls) strength of schedule, but the Badgers have decisively beaten two ranked teams in consecutive weeks, and Wisconsin has no FCS teams on its schedule, which Mercer and The Citadel are. Wisconsin doesn’t have a lot of big names on offense, with the exception of freshman running back Jonathan Taylor, third in the nation with 1657 yards. But Wisconsin’s defense has gotten the job done; the Badgers have allowed an average of 13.1 points per game, second behind Alabama (10.2) and ahead of Clemson (13.9). Wisconsin is also second behind Alabama in yards per game allowed at 246 to the Crimson Tide’s 244. The Badgers will play at Minnesota to end the regular season and will play Ohio State in the Big Ten Championship on December 2nd. If the win those two games, they’ll have a strong case for making the four team playoff.

Miami (#3 in the CFP, #2 in the AP) remained undefeated at 10-0 with its win over Virginia. The Hurricanes will play at Pittsburgh on November 24th, and will play Clemson in the ACC Championship on December 2nd.

Oklahoma (#4 in the CFP, #3 in the AP) clobbered Kansas 41-3 to improve to 10-1. The Sooners host West Virginia on November 25th. Auburn (#6 in both polls) improved to 9-2 with a 42-14 win over Louisiana-Monroe. Auburn will host in the Iron Bowl as this annual rivalry game is called on the 25th. The winner will play Georgia in the SEC Championship on December 2nd. Auburn will get strong CFP consideration if it wins those two games, even with two losses.
