Carlos found the Jeopardy! round Daily Double in “Novel Ideas” under the $600 clue, with 8 clues left after it. He was in a tie with Fran. They both had $4,000, $2,000 more than Manny. He made it a true Daily Double and thought it was the “Heart of Darkness.” That was WRONG.

Fran finished in the lead with $2,800. Manny was second with $2,200 and Carlos was last with $400.

Carlos found the last Daily Double in “Inventions & Discoveries” under the $2,000 clue, with 3 clues left after it. He was in second place with $3,600 when he landed on it, but was awarded $4,000 in a reversal (see below). He now had $7,600, $5,100 less than Fran’s lead. He bet $5,100 and he was RIGHT.

Fran and Carlos finished in a tie for the lead with $12,300 each. Manny was next with $1,000.

Iran has borders with 7 countries: Armenia, Azerbaijan, Turkmenistan, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Turkey and Iraq. It also borders 3 bodies of water: the Caspian Sea, the Persian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman. There’s a great map on SeaRates.com, showing Iran’s major seaports on each body of water.
Manny went with Iraq. He lost $999, leaving him with a dollar.
Carlos had Azerbaijan. He bet and lost it all.
Fran had Tibet. She also went all in and lost. What a shocker, eh? She and Carlos went into FJ with a tie and came out of it tied– at zero. We didn’t get to see a tiebreaker but we got to see Manny win the game with that lovely dollar he hung on to. “Whoops,” Manny said. His 3-day total is $42,799.

It’s possible that Manny simply mis-wrote Iraq instead of Iran. It’s easy for one’s mind to do a reverse polarity in a situation like this. Afterall, he probably attended DOD schools around the world wherever his father was stationed, and they are usually very good in world geography, unlike stateside schools.
I was sorry to see Fran go. That voice—and the knowledge.
Thanks for all the kindness, Kim! Here’s how it went down(hill): In the final minute, because of that chain of events, I went from an $8K lead to a dead heat. The one betting scenario I never figured on for Final was a dead heat. And since Carlos was surging, I was sure he was gonna get the answer, so I had little choice but to go all-in, even though I really didn’t want to. And my problem was that I always associated Iran with the Middle East, not Asia. And that’s how epic television is made.
(Flabbergasted) Best episode of the night.

Kristin Sausville was on WWTBAM today. Don’t know if it’s a rerun or not. I think she made it to $30,000 with all of her lifelines left when the show ended for the day. She returns tomorrow.
As for today’s Jeopardy Manny got lucky imo.
I’m not in agreement with the reversal in A SUFFIX WILL SUFFICE – “Algia” and “opathy” are NOT the same! You can have an “opathy” (pathological dysfunction) without “algia” (condition of experiencing pain.) Medical Latin 101, dudes… In the end, I guess it didn’t really matter, but I’ve come to expect more from the world’s best game show!
It comes down to how they worded that clue, imo. Whether it’s myopathy or myalgia, “you’ve got pain”
Probably one of the most shocking episode of all just like Seth Wilson’s five dollar bet that cost him the game. But still Manny caught a lucky break with Iraq but Tibet is way too far to be bordered with the Persian gulf and the Caspian sea. Do you think Manny was a little bit off focus though vj? Also Azerbaijan should have been accepted and Carlos would have won big but still a shocking finish. I think Kristen Sausville watching this would sympathize with Manny.
If you take a look at the map I put a link to in the recap, you can see that Iraq has a very small coastline on the Persian Gulf, but doesn’t border the Caspian Sea at all. For Azerbaijan, it’s the other way around — it borders the Caspian but not the Persian Gulf, so neither response fits the clue.
I must admit I was totes surprised that Manny did not get it and, whether he did or not, it sure looked like he was a goner with those pre-FJ scores. I’m calling this game Manny’s Miracle Match. LOL!
