Beat Shazam’s 14th episode of Season 1 aired on Thursday, September 14, 2017 — the 14th on the 14th. Host Jamie Foxx announced that the Fast Track was going to be a little different, then he introduced deejay October Gonzalez.

Next we met the teams. Here they are with the nicknames we gave them:

Well, that was interesting! Shazam’s average time solving this one was 4.82 seconds. The Music Men were on it a whole lot quicker than that but they didn’t show the time.

Only the Music Men and Diamond Bar got this but you guessed it! Diamond Bar again at 1.57. They’re getting faster all the time.

Shazam’s average time to beat was 4.20. The Lunch Ladies buzzed right in but blanked out. Here’s where we found out they don’t give the other teams a shot if the first response is wrong or, in this case, non-existent

Diamond Bar did themselves proud in that round and racked up a $7,000 lead over second place.

Both teams came in at 1.60 and both won $5K. Wow! Did we ever see that happen before?

Shazam’s time to beat: 4.23. C’mon now! Tim and Tom were so fast on that buzzer, they’ve just got to tell us the time.

Another perfect round for Tim and Tom. Trevon and Angela have to go now but they won $7,500. Believe it or not, that was more than the Jeopardy! champ won on the same day. Tim and Tom now get the chance to add a whole lotta money to their $96,000.

One Million Beat Shazam Round – 6 songs
First 5: $25,000 each. They only get a shot at the million if they get all 5 right. There are no multiple choice screens and they have to know the song’s exact title before Shazam to be right.
1. Party Songs: “Bust A Move” (Young MC) – there goes the shot at the million right off the bat
2. Elton John: “Candle in the Wind” – $121,000
3. 2010s: “Cheerleader” (OMI) – $146,000
4. Pop Rock: “Semi-Charmed Life” (Third Eye Blind) – $171,000
5. Canadians: “Love Yourself” (Justin Bieber) – they knew the song but added “you should” to the title so that was a no go. They began with $96,000 and finished with $171,000.

That was undoubtedly the most lucrative 5 minutes of their lives. They picked up an additional $75K for knowing 3 of those songs! They can now double their money to $342,000 by taking on and beating Shazam, or they can just take the $171,000 they’ve already got. The penalty for losing to Shazam is half their money so they would only get to take $85,500 home if they don’t know the exact title of the One-Hit Wonder faster than Shazam. They decided to take what they had. They competed on the show to set an example of what’s possible for their music students but, ultimately, they felt that gambling with $85,000 was just kind of reckless. It turned out to be a wise decision because they didn’t know Mark Morrison’s only hit — “Return of the Mack” from 1996.

In addition to a dream of a recording studio and a music venue, Tim was recently engaged and has a wedding to plan and Tom’s wife has an organic farm so he wants to open up a nice vineyard. Congrats, guys, and much luck with your plans.
