Cleveland Indians Set American League record With 21st Straight Win
The defending American League champion Cleveland Indians continued they’re remarkable late season run by winning a league record 21st straight game after beating the Detroit Tigers 5-3 in Cleveland September 13th. It was the 90th win of the season for the Indians who have vaulted past everybody and have the best record in the American League.
The Indians broke the previous record of 20 straight set in 2002 by the Oakland Athletics. The 1935 Cubs also won 21 straight. The 1916 New York Giants have the major league record at 26 straight wins. However, they won 12 in a row, followed by a tie game that was rained out after nine innings. The tie didn’t count in the standings and the Giants went on to win 14 more. Were sure there will be debate on if the streak really is 26, but Cleveland’s achievement is certainly remarkable.
The Indians go for #22 at home against Kansas City on September 14th.
