Philadelphia Flyers Win 10th Straight Game
As we hit the midpoint of December, the Philadelphia Flyers are the hottest team in the NHL. The Flyers notched their 10th straight victory with a 4-3 win over the Colorado Avalanche on December 14th. The win moved the Flyers into a second place tie with the New York Rangers at 41 points each. Pittsburgh leads the division with 43 points.
Jakup Vorachek, who had an assist in the Colorado win, leads the Flyers with 33 points on 11 goals and 22 assists. He had a pair of three assist, one goal games last week. Claude Giroux (9 goals, 21 assists, 30 points) and Wayne Simmonds (a team leading 16 goals to go with 13 assists for a total of 29 points) are right behind Vorachek. The team as a whole has been scoring a lot; the Flyers are 4th in the league in goals per game with 3.2.
Another factor in the Flyer’s so far successful season has been the play of goalie Steve Mason. Mason has won his last eight starts after an erratic start to the 2016-17 campaign. Mason is now 13-8 with a 2.79 goals against average. He had 26 saves in the win over Colorado.
Next up for the Flyers are the Dallas Stars. The teams will face off in Dallas on December 17th.
