The Final Jeopardy question (9/20/2016) in the category “Pop Culture Characters” was:
In 2015 this character was made an honorary citizen of Japan after over 60 years of residence there.
New champ Seth Wilson won $29,800 yesterday. In his second game, he is up against these challengers: Rachel Lin, from Tuckahoe, NY; and Bryan Hlavinka, from Houston, TX.
Round 1 Categories: Major League Ballpark Food, Native Americans, Words that Should Rhyme, A Whitman Sampler, Out of the Cradle, Endlessly Rocking
Seth found the Jeopardy! round Daily Double in “Native Americans” under the $800 clue with 9 clues remaining after it. He was in second place with $3,400, $2,600 less than Bryan’s lead. He made it a true Daily Double and he was RIGHT.
Of Cherokee descent, Robert Owen was one of the first 2 senators from this state in 1907. show

On the very next pick, Rachel found the last Daily Double in “Curious about Yellow” under the $2,000 clue. She was in third place with $2,800 now. She bet $2,000 and thought it was Beijing. That was WRONG.

Seth finished in the lead with $15,600 and Bryan was next with $14,800. Rachel was out of the game at negative $1,200.
Only ONE of the two contestants left got Final Jeopardy! right.
“Most residents of Tokyo’s pulsing Shinjuku ward, home to the busiest railway station in the world, are of the homo sapiens variety. Shinjuku has a population density of about 17,000 people per square kilometre but undeterred by this it has granted citizenship to a new resident, who only goes by one name – Godzilla.” See the certificate in the BBC News report.
No doubt, Godzilla’s citizenship extends to his children, if they’re still around.
Bryan thought it was Goku. He lost $1,601 bet and had $13,199 left.
Seth got it right. He bet it all again and won this match with $31,200, giving him a 2-day total of $61,000.
Reversal: FICTIONAL LANGUAGES ($1600) Tolkien created these languages whose forms include Quenya before writing his books, not the other way around. Bryan rang in with “Elven.” Alex said no, and Rachel rang in with “Elvish.” Right after that, Alex said the game was moving too fast even for him — he was signaled that he should have accepted Bryan’s response. So both Bryan and Rachel got that $1600.
A Triple Stumper: NATIVE AMERICANS ($400) Mescalero & Chiricahua are spoken by members of this Native American people

meant to mention — that BBC News article says that Godzilla was born on April 9, 1954 so I put him on the birthday list. He was born on the same day as Dennis Quaid. I wonder if Dennis knows.
Why were two pairs of words that rhyme on “words that should rhyme”? Ratio and patio was one pair.
They were talking about the parts of the word that have similar spelling patterns but are pronounced differently, like the first syllables of ratio and patio
Here are the clues
($200) Not uncovered.
($400) A pass that helps another player score & the guy playing a low-toned string instrument
($600) To give support to an effort & a group of people attending to a V.I.P.
($800) A paved backyard area & a quantitative relation between 2 amounts
($1000) Cheek makeup that’s also a French color & to dig out roughly
Ray’-shio and pa’-tio rhyme?
Jeff, the category was words that are spelled like they ought to rhyme but don’t.
The rhyming dictionary does list ratio for a 3-syllable rhyme with patio. I could see it in a rap song:
Was out on my patio
Chillin’ with Horatio
This reminds me of a Daily Double they had 3 years ago on rhyming state capitals. The category was Point “A” to Point “B” (the answers had to start with A and B) and the player said Annapolis and Bannapolis. LOL!!! The answer they wanted was Austin and Boston. Some didn’t think that rhymed.
If Austin and Boston don’t rhyme then nothing rhymes
Is the Teen Tournament gonna be in Washington D.C.?
yeah, it was taped there last April. (per JBuzz)
I know the kids were on Jeopardy in D.C., but they didn’t mention it on the website especailly when the Teen Tournament website comes on, I think when they put it on the website it’s gonna show the wall where it has the states in D.C.
By the way, when I think of Goku, I think of Dragonball Z, but seriously Dragonball Z has been on the air for many years now and I doubt that he was there for 60 years. VJ are you a fan of DBZ?
@Lou, I don’t know that much about Dragon Ball Z. Only one kid in my family was into it. I knew more about Pokemon characters because of the cards they used to collect.
I would watch Dexter’s Laboratory, Courage the Cowardly Dog and Johnny Bravo with that generation of kids sometimes. Courage was my favorite. 🙂
Even if you go back to the manga books, which predate the anime by a year, DBZ only goes back to 1988. So definitely not 60 years.
I was hoping the Friends category was about famous people who were friends and it was. Today, there are 11 more clues over here including that category.
Pretty cool: The link on the Billy Crystal clue
First: Goku is a character from dragon ball z Second. the han river reminded me of the 1994 Seongsu Bridge collapse in which 32 people died due to poor construction. rachel must have confused han river with the huang he in china.
