Baltimore Orioles’ Mark Trumbo on Course for His Best Season Yet

Baltimore Orioles outfielder Mark Trumbo will make his second appearance in the All Star Game’s Home Run Derby. There’s not really any surprise with that, as Trumbo led the majors in home runs though games of July 7th with 26. Trumbo’s first appearance in the Derby was in 2012 as a member of the Los Angeles Angels, which also was the last time he was an All Star. That year he hit 32 homers and drove in 95; he had his best numbers in those categories in 2013 when he hit 34 homers and had 100 RBIs despite hitting just .234.

Trumbo has been well traveled the last few years. He was traded to Arizona after the 2013 season, and was traded by the Diamondbacks to Seattle in June of 2015. Seattle traded him to Baltimore last December. While he did OK with the Diamondbacks and Mariners, he’s back to putting up the kind of numbers he had with the Angels. Through July 7th, he has 26 homers and 64 RBIs, and is hitting .285, which is 31 points higher than his lifetime average, he’s slugging at a .570 clip and has an OPS of .904, which are both well above his lifetime marks. The Orioles are in first place in the American League East, two games ahead of Toronto and three ahead of Boston. The Orioles host the last in the A.L West Angels for three games this weekend, so they figure to be in first place going into next week’s All Star break.
