Dodgers Shut Out Padres in Third Straight Game
If the opening series to the 2016 season is any indication, the San Diego Padres are in for a long year.
The Padres opened the season hosting the Los Angeles Dodgers in a three game set. Opening Day on April 4th featured an old fashioned butt kicking as the Dodgers won 15-0 behind Clayton Kershaw’s pitching and a 17 hit attack. It was the biggest Opening Day shutout in Major League history, breaking a 105 year old record. That was followed by a 3-0 shutout, where San Diego pitching held the Dodgers to just six hits, but the Padres could only manage two.
The series concluded with a 7-0 shutout in which Japanese pitcher Kenta Maeda not only was the winning pitcher in his big league debut, he was a hitting star as well, belting a home run in his second Major League at bat.
The loss by the Padres set another record for futility, as they became the first team to open the season on the receiving end of three shutouts.
The Padres will try to get on the scoreboard when they open a three game set at Colorado on April 8th. The Dodgers are at San Francisco for four games beginning April 7th.
